Diablo 2 WereSkills (Druid/Bear/Whatever)

yeah I watched trueblood

I think this could be a cool thing to add into skill gems and maybe passive bonuses for classes like the e.g. shadow, ranger and duelist

possibilities on were-skills are pretty interesting but it could probably be limited to the bear/wolf/panther trifecta.

In D2 werewolves and werebears have their own skills, and your build often revolves around being a werewolf for an extended period of time. Where does that fit into PoE? You can't just make a were-form a huge indiscriminate stat buff because then it'd become almost mandatory to use it. You could add these forms, I suppose, if you also added a dozen or so skill and support gems that only apply to the forms, but that'd be a lot of work.
Okay, so, to help OP idea a bit, here's some fleshy details to illustrate a model that works in the current frame:

Skill gem: Werewolf form.
Duration: x
Mana cost: y
Req: strength
Looks: Turn awesome

Skill gem: Weretiger form
Mana reserved: 50%
Req: dex
Looks: Turn furious

Skill gem: Weresquid form.
Mana cost per second: x
Looks: Turn into a squid
Req: int

---

Support gem: Frenzy of the Were-something
Mana cost: 70% (1/3 reduction)
Attack speed: +10%
Cooldown reduced by 10%
res: dex, any wereform

Support gem: Might of the were-something
Damage: +30%
Req: str, any wereform

Support gem: Brilliance of the were-something
Manacost reduced by 50%
Req: int, any wereform

There's nothing wrong with the idea in itself.
This could also be supported in their respective direction of the passive-galaxy-map (skilltree if you like), just add a few circles of support here and there.
Such as increased duration (in strength), +damage in forms, and so on, and so forth.
Nothing broken, a lot of pain to get it rolling, and still lots of options for a positive gain. Aka. not in itself broken.

Now, if it fits in? That would largely depend on the art of the forms, the actual mechanics of the gems, and the amount of gems required for a single form to be viable.

Edit: For further explanations.

it can be aplied without becoming a must have, best thing to do is:

while equiped turn into a were"insert animal" gaining pros and cons: this means transformations will have a place for dedicated characters but they wont become a must due to ther cons, let e be a bit more especific

werewolf: +15% movment speed (+1% per lv), +30% attack speed (+2% per lv) but olso - 15% to resistances (-2% per lv), olso disables ranged attacks.

transform into golem: +20% to armor (+3% per lv), ressistances +40% (+1% to max ressistances per lv) and dmg by 40% (+2% per lv, but -20% to movement (-2% per lv), and -30% to attack speed (-3% per lv) olso disables ranged attacks and skills.

transform into spiting cobra (ranged): increase movment speed and attack speed by 30% (+2% per lv) but removes armor, evacion and block, olso reduce ressitance by 50%

numbers are a bit off but thye are like that to prove the point of transformations fullfiting a double edge role.

This has been brought a while back, I think we deduced something like :

No auras can be active while being an animal, base duration is 1min, when coming out of form player is over encumbered and walks for 10 seconds (Cant run)...

BEAR

Bear Grants - Life bonus, Armor bonus, life regen bonus, Stun immunity.
Bear Removes- 50% Mana, 10% attack speed, 10% Move speed, Cannot Evade/Block.

Were-bear - Strength/Dex Gem - Bears MAUL their victims - So in such scenario, this skill can only be casted while dual wielding 1h mauls and only maul skills can be used while in the form - Weapon dissapears and the bear uses its hands.

WOLF

Wolf Grants - Critical Chance/Multiplier, Mana Regen, Elemental Damage bonus, Energy Shield.
Wolf Removes- Evasion, Some Physical Damage, Elemental Resistances.

Were-Wolf - Int/Str Gem - Wolves, they cleave/claw at you - So in such scenario we need, dual wielding either axes or claws perhaps.

Were-? - Dex/Int - Swords? Bows(Were-porcupine lol)?

This solves the whole needing to add new skills..

Reminder these are just examples.

i don't want to suggest any specific numbers because i'm not qualified to but the above posts def illustrate the potential of such additions.

a couple nodes here and there (like what there is for minions or totems) is all you'd really need and it'd be pretty cool i think. definitely diablo 2-esque but in a good way.

You wouldn't need to add nodes - there are tons of nodes that would effect this .

Examples :

Buff Duration
Inner Focus
Buff Duration (Support Gem)

i find alot of classes boring, i dont go into their sub forums and call them all boring classes.

I would like to add that this sounds great and i think comments are on the right track. make it good but make it have negatives like anything else good in this game.

I know its just a suggestion but also dont forget druids were over a yearish later after d2 launched. im not sure how they are really calling it since the final wipe has already happened but POE is not even "launched" yet so got plenty of time :)

tl;dr: sounds great +1
