Jeweller's orb failing to to apply on 2h staff

It's a The Searing Touch long Staff, and I get the fail message when I try to use a jeweller's orb on it. Staff have now have 3 socket from max 6, i can change colour or link but not number of socket.




Does anyone know how to fix this?

Not sure if this applies, but there was a fix in that if the item dropped from a strongbox with "+1 to number of sockets" you wouldn't be able to apply any jeweler's orbs to it. Basically the way I understand it, is if the ilvl of the item doesn't allow more than 2 sockets, but because of the strongbox you got 3, it'll never let you reroll as you'll never be able to get 3 again.

What ilvl is the staff?

i use 5-6 Jeweller's orb befor it broken, once had 4 socket.

The number of sockets is restricted by item level

to get a 4 socket again you need to have itemlevel 28+

If it had 4 sockets before, i take it you jewelers orbs on it before the 1.1.1 patch?(about 7 hours before you posing)
