Rangers and +Intellect / +Strength Passive nodes

My basic question is: should Rangers be boosting their Int or Str from the passive tree?
I have a bunch of red and blue gems I can no longer level, and of course an item or two I can't equip due to lack of Str or Int or both. My current build has taken me right beside a +30 Int and +30 Str node and I am tempted. But is this just a false economy? It will simply mean I level those gems a few more times, and will soon encounter other gear I cannot use. So I will just end up back in the same boat. So where does it end? What's your opinion on Rangers taking Str and Int in general? Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress.

Lot of people nab iron grip, str = hp/damage in that case. I'm of the opinion that 70 int is a good goal for leveling dex/int hybrid gems that are useful like the hatred aura.
