Could not overwrite executable with new patched executable

Patch 1.0.5 i get the following message when patching

Could not overwrite the executable with new patched executable. Please make sure that PathofExile.exe or PathofExile.tmp are not still running. If neccessary, you may need to reboot your computer.

I have done the following, do i need to uninstall and re-install it again?

A re-install should not be required. Ensure the .exe/content.ggpk file is not read-only. Also, run the game as Administrator, and disable any anti-virus software you may have running etc.
Thank you for your FAST! response worked like a charm :)

No problemo, glad that did the trick! :)
I'm having this same problem. No A/V, files aren't marked as read only, and running as administrator... This is with the latest 1.1.0e patch.

Check your installation directory. If there is a pathofexile.tmp file as well as a pathofexile.exe file then what worked for me was removing the current .exe file and renaming the .tmp file to .exe.

I have to do this after every patch generally.

Note, I think someone else had the same issue but for them it was the client.exe file that was the issue. After patching they removed the client.exe and renamed the client.tmp to client.exe and it worked fine.
I just ran into this issue for the most recent update. (first time experiencing it)

I tried to delete pathofexile.exe as suggested, but got an error message about Steam Bootstrapper or something. I'm not sure why Steam would affect or have anything to do with PoE as it is not installed through the Steam client. I shut down Steam and tried to lauch PoE and the update was successful.

I think Steam is causing issues in updating. Is Steam tied to PoE even when it's installed separately?
