Increased X Damage, Increased Y Damage. Mult or Add?
Say you've got 50% Increased Melee damage and 50% Increased 2H Damage. These are both increased, but are not of the same type. Do all additive properties get combined before multiplying? Or are they multiplied separately? Another example would be 50% Increased Spell Damage and 50% Elemental Damage. How would these stack? So is it: Damage*(1 + 0.5 + 0.5) -- it's all added together before multiplying (even from different sources) or Damage*(1 + 0.5)*(1 + 0.5) -- each additive gets it's own multiplicative pass | |
Increased and reduced are always added up before being applied. More and less are always multiplied. As you can tell from looking around at various skills, equipment, and passives, increased/reduced is much more common than more/less
Edit: just to give some examples of modifiers that use "more" or "less" wording: -Lesser multiple projectiles: 30% less projectile damage -Greater multiple projectiles: 50% less projectile damage -Weapon elemental damage: X% more weapon elemental damage -Melee physical damage: X% more melee physical damage -Point blank: up to 50% more damage to very close targets -Chin Sol: 100% more bow damage at close range -Pain attunement: 30% more spell damage when on low life IGN: Iolar Last edited by BRavich#4397 on Nov 24, 2012, 5:44:03 AM

If something says increased, you add all the stuff together then you multiply. If it says more, you multiply.
Here's why a 2h ground slam witch with CI is good: 5 8% mace damage passives unique helm for +20% physical damage (levle 1 no qual) +30% more phys melee damage support gem (level 1 no qual) +30% more phys meleee damage while on full life support gem (1 + 5*0.08 + 0.2) * 1.3 * 1.3 = 2.704 = 270% increased melee physical damage My Keystone Ideas: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/744282

" I knew that curses bonus were generally multiplicative but I never realized that all these support gem bonus were also multiplicative. For instance, I thought that the lesser multiple projectile penalty (30% less projectile damage) was 100% compensated by the 30% increased projectile damage it provides at level 17. In reality, if my base damage is 300 and I have 50% increased projecile damage from passives, my normal damage will be 450 damage (300*1.50). But if I use lightning arrow with level 17 lesser multiple projecile, I will do 378 dmg ((300*1.80)*0.70). Thanks for the reminder !
