I paste here my reply to the thread "Crossbows" since in there it got no feed back, in my opinion this is good stuff, and worth a lecture.

i like the idea to implement crossbows and javelins, but i don't like the part about knifes, throwing axes, or potions; i've never seen anyone useing them in d2, nobody would be useing them in poe; here's my part:

i don't belive in one-handed crossbows.

the crossbow instead of attack speed should have reload speed, strength as relative stat

they should be of different types based on something like this:

1+ istant attack per reload - 1.5+ seconds time to reload - trickynumber% ignored armor - +trickynumber% phiscal dmg

probably dangerous against phis reflect but could be really fun to make builds around that. it should result in a slow fireing machine of death; new skills only for crossbow might spawn, some of the old might become "just for bows".

the javelin might be incredibly fun, as in d2 it would allow you to play melee & ranged, the ultimate strenght/dexterity combination; it should be viable for dual wielding, with maybe an incredibly lower chance to block, given the chance to do dmg before approaching, or weapon & shield.

something like this:

dual wielder - increased attack speed, both melee and projectile - less block chance
jav & shield - normal attack speed - shield block chance
