Does Initial classes really make any difference?

I would like to know what the major reasoning is to take a specific class. The starting stat differences are nominal. I know starting location will make it difficult for example ranger to reach the caster area but not impossible. Other then Flavor which I am not saying is bad. Is there any hardcore restrictions on either gear or abilities that would make you pick a specific class?

Thank you.
Initial class only influences where you start on the passives tree, and your looks in game. There is no other 'hardcore' restrictions in this game.

Obviously if your entire build is in the ranger tree, building a maurader or templar would be a huge waste of points trying to get to it. This would potentially make your character not as strong as if you went with a ranger to begin with.

Nope. Any class can go anywhere and use any weapon/armor.

The only real difference between classes is their starting point on the skill tree.

The quest rewards you get are different. If you are a brand new player building off class could be difficult because the skill gems you get as rewards would not be what you want.
In Wraeclast, if someone tries to kill you... you just kill them right back.

I picked my first Char 100% because of the visual appearance ;)

Gameplay is somewhat different in the first few days until you spread your skilltree. At first, you are somewhat limited to the main stats (and the skills you get).

in poe you don´t choose a class, u choose skill gems, then the passive nodes to support them and finally take the class that has to use the least skill points to get to them.

Of course it makes a difference. True you can go anywhere but you said it yourself, it is harder for the ranger to go up to the witch. So you will have more challenging gameplay as a ranger wizzard. You would benefit from more careful planning of your path so you dont have a terrible build before you even start getting the useful nodes you need to make your build work.

There are no class specific items yet, nor any item that behaves differently for different classes.
Wanted to thank everyone for their responses. It's as I figured, just wanted to confirm what I had thought.
