Random transfigured build
Original post: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3699715
I wanted to republish this here, because: - original thread seems to be abandoned. I want to draw more attention to this; - post had been made before 3.26 announcements, it's a good reason to update post. That's a challenge for 3.27 and future leagues for ones, who want to play something unusual. It consists of 4 steps: 1. Throw a 1d7 (or use random.org to get a number from 1 to 7). Pick a character with this number:
Spoiler
1. Templar
2. Shadow 3. Marauder 4. Scion 5. Ranger 6. Duelist 7. Witch 2. Before the first lab, get a skill gem you don't need. Make sure you like color this gem has. After you start the first lab, defeat Izaro for the third time and before you leave the labyrinth, roll 1d3 (similar to step 1), then transform the gem you have brought into a random transfigured gem. Get one of the outcomes based on the number rolled:
Spoiler
1. Left
2. Middle 3. Right I suppose, you can simply memorize the gem and buy it later, if you can (want) to get something more valuable. 3. Create a fully functional build with the gem you've got (memorized and bought later) in its core* and with the character you've got.
Spoiler
* This condition is necessary to prevent some obvious ways of completing this challenge, like triggering CoC, shocking enemies for Herald of Thunder or poisoning them for Herald of Agony with the gem you have got from lab. These builds can work with most of transfigured gems, which make the whole challenge pointless.
Don't worry, default "Only use one skill gem and a lot of utility to boost damage" build is always fine for this challenge. Finding some clever ways to deal more damage with that same hits or, maybe, completely different types of builds are always appreciated. The reason is that main difficulty of this challenge should be the build creation and not the repetitive search for better items. 4. Defeat some pinnacle bosses:
Spoiler
Eater
Exarch Incarnation of Neglect Incarnation of Fear Incarnation of Dread If you want more challenge, you can try: High Templar Venarius (from Cortex map) Sirus Uber Elder (from "The Elder" quest) Maven Number of player in the party shouldn't be more than 1 while you're fighting with the boss. Mercs will be counted as half a player if you use them in the bossfight (just like GGG counts them for reward and difficulty multipliers) T17 and Uber pinnacle bosses might be difficult for an arbitrary combination from steps 1 and 2, therefore this is not recommended. If you want to participate, feel free to ask questions and (when ready) send PoBs and recordings of boss fights. I love this!
I rolled a 1 and a 3 (Templar, right). Gonna give it a try. Softcore, solo self-found. ----- Currently: ----- Holy Relic of Conviction Flicker Strike Necromancer in Mercenaries Last edited by SunsetVista#4840 on Sep 15, 2025, 10:59:23 AM

Question: Do I need to wait until merc lab to get the gem, or can I transfigure one in normal lab and play my random skill starting from there?
The wording 'defeat izaro for the third time' was a bit confusing. Edit: Ah, I see the original challenge post refers to the normal lab divine font. Understood. Awesome job with that Shattering Steel build!
How did you record the videos? I've never done that before. Softcore, solo self-found.

Sorry for this misunderstanding. I meant, that there are 3 fights with Izaro in each lab, and after you finished the last one, the lab is basically completed. I changed text a bit to specify, that first lab was reffered.
By the way, I'm surprised you want to use transfigured gem right after you get it, which is not necessary. You still can play with skills you have until you have enough currency/gear for respec and then start using that transfigured gem. Edit: i used OBS studio to record my screen. Since I didn't have any video editor, I used it display additional information as well. Last edited by Nlckname#5587 on Sep 15, 2025, 11:43:04 AM

And my skill is...
Flameblast of Celerity! I guess it's not that off-meta, but I am pleased, since I've wanted to do flameblast for a long time. Edit: I'll be going self-cast without Energy Blade. Picked Hierophant, we'll see what sort of MoM shenanigans I can get up to. " It's personal preference, really. I enjoy puzzling out the build as I go through the campaign. Cobbling the build together before maps is more fun for me because I learn more of the mechanics and have to use what I find on the way. Thanks for the rec for the recording program! I have seriously gimped myself in endgame by restricting myself to not taking advantage of the lightning skills and supports that scale from high mana. But we'll see if I can still do two stones like that. It's supposed to be a challenge, after all! I plan to swap to MoM after merc lab. I'll have eternal blessing - anger, and arrogance - vitality - clarity to hit low life for pain attunement, and we'll see what happens. I'm also theory crafting things using petrified blood (and 30% recoup from that cluster above witch, juicy, probably silly) and/or righteous fire (I am gonna need the damage, and it would be so cool if I can make it work, although it seems risky). Currently main skill links are Flameblast of Celerity - Faster Casting - Inspiration - Infused Channelling. I've got a decoy totem and a lightning golem and flammability. flesh and stone sand stance, and flame dash with culling strike. Aw hell, here's a PoB before Act 7 boss: https://pobb.in/tCSQo9w5DP3w I'm not using a merc yet, since it's still campaign and I'm still figuring out how everything works. Are there merc restrictions for the challenge? Softcore, solo self-found.

" Oh, I forgot about that. I guess the short answer is "Mercs shouldn't be allowed". The long answer is: Mercenaries are good, because they can increase your defence and provide additional damage scaling. The problem is some combinations (Doryani's prototype & reflected jewelery as an example) are too powerful. Well, I guess the simplest solution is to restrict the maximum amount of players in area to 1 (mercenaries count as half a player). I will add this remark to the post soon. P.s.: I still want to see someone catch a mrec with the transfigured gem he(she) needs for the challenge. I guess I already made that impossible by saying you need an exact character for the build. |

So, I've made it to maps. Tinkering in PoB, I respec'd away from the ignite chance and the extra damage on ignited targets fire mastery and put those points into the arcane surge effect nodes. I swapped the very cool Immolate out for Elemental Focus.
Links are Flameblast of Celerity - Inspiration - Infused Channelling - Arcane Surge - Elemental Focus. The sixth link will be Fire Penetration. I wish I could fit Immolate in there! I'd love to be able to combo it with maybe a Flame Surge of Combusting setup to get the ignite and burning ground. Or Righteous Fire or RF of Arcane Devotion (cast speed, yum) because the burning from RF would turn on Immolate's added damage. But... it's really not efficient. I also plan to take the Ascendancy node that grants a percent of mana as extra energy shield (Sanctuary of Thought), which does not combo well with RF. ...but it would've been SO COOL! Ascendancy Nodes in order so far are: conviction of power arcane blessing divine guidance Here's my PoB: https://pobb.in/ktWdKy8hffgN Softcore, solo self-found.

Just finished uber lab and got last ascendancy points. First time recording.
https://youtu.be/kHqkQV7PWhk I disabled petrified blood reserved on life (which is enabling pain attunement normally) to be tankier against Izaro. SSF so far. Just breaking into red maps. It'd be awesome to get an ivory tower or prism guardian though.
