Can we have an actual POE 2 since the current one fails at every goal it originally had?

This is not a hate on poe 2 thing.
Its just a matter of fact that poe 1 and poe 2 have clearly difference audiences. Which is fine.

But the poe 1 audience really has not gotten what they were promised and i want to highlight how it is still wanted and needed.

Poe 2 should be renamed to like "trials of Wraeclast" to differentiate it as its own thing cause it very clearly is.

And poe 1 should get the actual poe 2 it was promised:

A new improved engine.

A new Champaign or at least make the current one less bad.

More beginner features.

New skeletal animation and rigging system.

Multiple new Ascendancy Classes for each character.

A graphical overall.

The rework of many old and outdated gems.

New weapon/armour sets.

Or, instead of a new campaign, as such, perhaps work on a system of modular Acts, which could be randomly generated (or even selectable as instances), in order to break up the existing monotony. Yes, it would require some balancing, but shouldn't be all that difficult to create (or solicit contributions from the playerbase) quests to fit the required niches in each act. The voice acting shouldn't be so bank-breakingly expensive that it wouldn't be worth the goodwill of the PoE community after all these years of the same stuff.

A new league could feature a new set of Acts, along with whatever new mechanics are involved, sustaining player engagement.

Race events could be the usual fixed seed, of course, but the actual campaign wouldn't be so stultifyingly dull, anymore. =^[.]^=

The second you write something, you should know that is EXACTLY what it is.

"Audience did not get what they wanted": according to who, exactly? This is just your personal hatred, and the rest of your post illustrates the exact opposite of this point.

New engine was promised: and it has it
New campaign was promised: and it has it
More beginner features: the entire game is a dumbed down PoE 1 for beginners
Rework of old/outdated gems: entirely done
New ascendancies: features brand new ascendancies and classes.

Nearly your entire list are examples of PoE 2....keeping its promises and doing exactly what you criticize it for NOT doing.

I'd encourage some self reflection to actually craft a legitimate point of criticism because there is none here currently. Also...this is a PoE 1 feedback forum, not PoE 2.

And THIS POST is not to say PoE 2 is good or bad, or casting judgment in any way. But when you clearly do cast judgment....at least have SOME workable content in the post.

To paraphrase a question from Ben several months ago that is still relevant now with the 0.3 update:

"I don't understand why POE2 exists?"

- everything is fast except you (unlike POE1)
- supposed to be "dark souls" methodical combat yet there are a million enemies moving at light speed and you are a tortoise
- 1 shot galore often with no explanation (like POE1, was supposed to be different)
- zero visual clarity in every combat situation (like POE1)
- horrible game performance in each combat situation (like POE1)
- all wearable ground loot is terrible (like POE1)
- vast majority of unique items are laughably bad (like POE1)
- 20 step gambling with horrible RNG labeled as "crafting" (like POE1)

Notice the repeat of "like POE1". Many of these design repeats were intentional (?), some were accidental (?), and some are just confusing.

Clearly, based on the comments and enthusiasm from the POE2 devs, there SHOULD be a sizable (100k+) audience that will continue to play this game beyond an early update/league release, so where is this audience?

It continues to SHATTER any numbers PoE 1 has ever put up. Whether you or I like it is objectively irrelevant when:

PoE 2 Steamcharts:
24 hour peak: 333k players (PoE 1 ALL TIME PEAK: 228k)
Currently playing: 200k+ players (PoE 1 BEST hovers around 40-50k)

So where are those players? I mean....its not even FREE or out yet and its seeing those numbers. So they are most certainly playing the game. And these current numbers are a great illustration of what it might look like at release and on new league launch. Shattering PoE 1 numbers by magnitudes even prior to full release.

Ben's comments you quoted were made in the first weeks of the release of the beta, nearly a full year of development ago. It is most certainly out of date. And guess what....he's still playing PoE 2.

no, leave poe 1 alone it's fine in it's current state, only needs future leagues to continue to be fun, and buffs to certain skills
It has the PoE template but its a different variation. People are playing the game but in my mind there's two key questions to ask:

1) population study - what percentage of players are where. As examples what % of players are having a blast in the campaign, what % of players are approaching t11 waystones or higher.

2) which demographics are more likely to give them money - GGG is an entertainment company and they are balancing around an artistic vision to profit continuum. They are the taste-makers, they have an idea on what should be popular. PoE 1 players has experienced this overall idea in expedition league, lake of kalandra league, ruthless mode, etc.

.

My view of PoE 2 hinges on the second question. One possible scenario is GGG earns a fair bit of profit from players who basically hang out in the campaign up to t1-5 waystones. If this hypothetical is true, then it'd be cool to know how many of those players exist and also how much impact will they have in the direction of the game. If an X playerbase that views PoE 2 favourably is larger than the PoE 1 player count, turns into a simple numbers game for GGG.

GGG has access to those questions and you can tell they continue to go in the direction the game is going.

Most of us, myself included, prefer POE 2 over POE 1. I loved POE 1 and it was super fun but this is light years ahead of it and its barely even finished.

GGG knows it will capture 2 audiences and they are doing just fine. Negative people on forums are always louder than the rest of us having fun.

This is what I don't understand about people yelling "it's not poe1" or "poe2 is different". With my little poe1 experience (I didn't like it), this feels like basically the same game with better graphics and slowed player character. Almost everything else is just the same old as I remember it years ago.

woosh.
"i want the features that were promised for poe1 in poe1"
"WeLl ThOsE fEaTuReS aRe In PoE 2"
poe 2 is not a replacement for poe 1. That is the whole reason it became its own thing and not an update. Because the core design scope became to parasitic to the original.
