Are golems immune to their respective element?

i.e. Summon Flame Golem immune to fire/burn damage? (Can I give it Legion support and it won't die to itself?)

I know I can do this as an Elementalist, but I mean outside of that.

No, only elementalists get golems that are immune to elemental damages.

They do have a small bonus to the associated resists.

Well, my plan was to use Infernal Legion to apply a burn for Flame Surge, so if the Golem wasn't immune, he'd just die.

However, I remembered that I can put that on Skitters, so I went with that. (Also, ultimately, I abandoned the build project, rofl. I tried a crit build for Flame Surge, but only ended up with like 7.5k ES after all I had to invest in for crit stats... I did have about 4m DPS, though, largely thanks to Unyielding Flame. 1.4m was on Flame Surge itself. Overall, though, not worth it, esp for a self-cast.)

On a side note, skitterbots + infernal legion + minion damage does a suprisingly good job for leveling on your league start, at least in the early acts. It's due to the absurdly good AI that skitterbots have.
