Vulnerability & Hextouch interaction

I am currently attempting to use Hextouch support on the Vulnerability spell.
However, when i link the two gems, the vulnerability spell states "you cannot cast this spell directly"

Is there something i am missing or am i just a noob and dont understand how its supposed to work?

(PS. i have the required stats to use both gems)

you need to link the curse with hextouch to a skill that hits enemies
