Shimmeron killing me, what am I doing wrong?

Greetings community.

I have been trying out a new build, but I am getting killed off by my Shimmeron wand, even on white low-tier maps. I don't understand why!

I have 129% light res + Circle of Regret and Herald of Thunder gem. To my understanding, I should be close to immune to lightning damage. Is the weapon bugged or is it just impossible to mitigate the damage, meaning you have to have more life/regen to survive its impact on your health pool?


Thanks for helping out and do take a look at my gear if you want, to see if there might be something conflicting with the Shimmeron/making it worse.

resistance soft cap is 75%, which is minimum what we all have. With your ring you have 76% which is nothing special really, far far away from being "immune lo lightning damage"

you definitely need to work much harder to overcome shimmeron downside. higher HP + regen, leech or other reliable sources of recovery. ofc stacking maximum lighting resistance further would also help, Purity of Ice, cluster jewels etc, but the opportunity cost of these investments can be too high to be justified..

perhaps take a look at poe.ninja builds, search for shimmeron users and get inspired with their solutions ;)

Thank you for the input @Ludvator. I'm still not sure what you mean with me having 76% in lightning resistance. If you take a look at my link, it says 127%. I'm most likely misunderstanding something here, so do chime in:)

Your res is capped at 75%.

The number in brackets is meaningless except when your are being cursed and this curse is reducing your lightning res.
If that curse was reducing your lightning res by 40% points, then it would be deducted from the number in brackets. So 127 - 40 = 87
Would still be above the cap of 75% rendering the curse inconsequential for you.

maximum resistance is 75%. this maximum can be increased by some mods like on your ring or Purity of Lightning etc, up to 90% which is the hard cap. The number in the bracket shows "uncapped resistance". People overcap their resists to counter curses that lower resistances.

I feel the need of barging in and say that swapping your Shimmerion, Nebuloch, Oni-Goroshi, Disintegrator, Hopeshredder or any other kind of weapon that deals you damage with one of their modifiers will also stop the DoT since you are no longer having the offensive weapon in an active state. Bonus point, this is also eligible for Arakaali's "life regen if you stopped taking DoT recently".

So, until you find a way to overcap your lightningRes, or taking less damage from it (hint: Kintsugi and Wind Dancer's Less Damage Taken applies even to DoTs), you can find a very quick and easy solution by just equipping anything in your weapon slot and quickly tapping twice your Weapon Swap button when you see you are going to die soon
