Battlemage Cry & Multistrike Interaction

Currently using ice crash + multistrike together with battlemage cry + glacial cascade. From battlemage cry's description "Exerted Attacks Trigger a Supported Spell with their first Melee Hit" I expected it to work with the first hit of multistrike, but it doesn't trigger any spells at all and the exert counter stays at 5. Is this intended?

It's always been like this with ancestral cry and it pisses me of. I don't know if it's intended or not

I am using Dominating blow + multistrike and Battlemage cry + absolution. same thing happening with me as well.

However, when i take off dominating blow gem, then multisrike works with battle mages cry.
Also using Dom blow and battelmage cry+absolution, when i swap out the multistrike, it works.
I'm using pseudo 6 link gloves:

Smite
Ancestral call
Elemental damage
Close combat
+ faster attack
+ additional accuracy

If i stand on top of a mob and hit it, it will trigger the spells, if i only hit the mob with the aoe version of smite or with the ancestral version it will not.

I have tried removing ancestral calla nd tested it with rutless instead and it is the same situation. I only trigger the spells on the melee portion. However the exerted attacks are still consumed.

Spell i am triggering(or rather, not triggering) is via following links

Battlemage's cry
Wave of conviction
Physical to lightning
Lightning penetration
Inspiration

@GGG is this intended behaviour ? It makes the skill a lot more cluncky and unfun to use.
