Does Rain of Arrows benefit from projectile damage passives and the like?
The description for Rain of Arrows is "Attack, AoE, Bow". It does not say "projectile". However on the wiki, it says that despite this lack of text it does in fact benefit from projectile damage nodes. I just don't know if this is via someone trolling the wiki or if it is true. If this is true, then why does RoA not say projectile?
Additionally, does Iron Grip increase RoA's damage proportional to your strength as it does for attacks labeled "projectile"? And what does Projectile Weakness do for RoA? Since the arrows fall from the sky, how can it pierce? And does the knockback work? Thanks for the answers :) I want to make a high-strength Duelist utilizing Rain of Arrows, Iron Grip, Frenzy, Decoy Totem and Projectile Weakness, but only if these things will actually work with RoA. The knockback works, I don't know wether it's applied from the center of the roa or away from you though I didn't really pay attention
If you plan to use RoA with conc effect, frenzy will mostly be there for the charges, roa will be a better single target and it's also 100% chance to hit so no need to get RT Iron grip's working | |
everything that boosts projectiles, as far as i know, boosts RoA. as for projectile weakness, the knockback works, since strangely enough, the knockback aspect of the curse isnt projectiles only. the knockback is from the player, not from the centre of the RoA. pierce will not have an effect since the AoE of RoA technically isnt a projectile.

I can tell you as a physical bow ranger that use RoA as my primary skill, that proj dmg nodes do increase the damage. Also I have iron grip, and str does indeed help the damage.
Depending on how much physical damage you have, I have found that vulnerability works better than projectile weakness. For single targets I use Ice Shot with Temporal Chains. This combo basically paralyzes the enemy if you have a decent attack speed. "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

Cool, thanks for the info! I have yet to play an archer in PoE, so I still haven't decided between Split Arrow and RoA for my main AoE source. To me it seems like Split Arrow's effectiveness depends on a lot of things, mainly gear and gems. I can't see how it could possibly be effective without a Pierce gem and maybe Chain. But I'd prefer to have support sockets available for things like Life Leech and Faster Attacks, since I'm too poor to afford a good 5-link item. I don't know, Split Arrow just seems sort of underwhelming to me.

RoA hits a billion times harder due to being compatible with concentrated effect, making it do 70% more damage at the cost of a tiny bit of aoe.

Adding my 2 cents as a Physical /Crit Shadow Archer running Rain of arrows, these are some things i realized about ROA.
- King of the Hill works on ROA, the knockback knocks monsters away from you. Same goes with Projectile Weakness. - Pierce DOES NOT work on ROA. -Decent projectile speed + is a must with ROA, especially with high attack speeds. My shadow is level 54 in merc HC right now and I am pretty much destroying everything by showering mobs in a ton of Arrows. With 30% crit rate and 290% mult, my ranged totem with ROA and my own ROA can pretty much stunlock mobs through the knockback. Also @OP : Point blank works with ROA, if your objective is to get in close and spray showers of death to the enemy. Level 53 Lightning Dagger 1h - Kyozumi - HC active

" Does projectile speed reduced the time between the shot and the arrows landing? How do you handle keeping mobs off you without decoy totem? My current character (ground slam/trap/decoy totem shadow) is built like a tank. He has 6k HP at lvl 75 and uses an amazing shield, but if I let mobs beat on me I'm dead in a heartbeat.
