Question about shock
|
so i read in wiki how shock can be applied in the game, but since english is not my mother language, i need someone to tell me if i understood the content right or wrong:
from what i understand is that crit hits ALWAYS shock enemies, no matter how much lightning dmg you deal. However, if you don't crit, you have to deal a one-hit-dmg of 0.2% enemy maximum life in order to apply shock, am i right? thx in advance Last bumped on Sep 30, 2018, 10:50:00 AM

if you donot crit you cannot shot or you need % chance to shock instead % life damage you deal is only the magnitude at which you apply shock

" 1. you need to deal lightning damage (or have one of the few sources of shock for other stuff) 2. You need crit or chance to shock. 3. You need high enough (lightning) damage compared to the monster's life pool for shock to actually do something. So no, crit doesn't always shock. 3.5 build: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2299519

To put it more clearly, there are two main requirements.
- Whether the damage can shock anyone at all - Whether the damage is high enough to apply a shock with a value of at least 1% The former is granted by crits or chance to shock for non-crit hits. Note that these are not additive and having 50% chance to crit and 50% chance to shock will not result in a 100% chance to shock, but an overall 75% chance to shock due to a 50% chance to shock with non-crits. The highest shock you can inflict is capped at 50% at hits that inflict 10% of the enemy life as damage. Increased effect of shock works as a virtual multiplier for your damage in relation to this cap and makes it easier to reach, but not exceed. A minimum of 0.2% of the enemy life is required to reach the 1% threshold without increased effect. Lastly, the damage type needs to generally be able to inflict shock. Traditionally, this is only lightning damage, but there are uniques, that enable other types to shock. It's important, that if you deal several types of damage, only the specified parts of it can shock and are used for shock threshold calculations. |
