Confused about currency

Hi all, I am still a little confused about currency. i was wondering if anyone could point me to a reliable website that might break down orb values for me? i would appreciate it alot.
Also could anyone let me know what i should try to sell a "Portal" gem for? just found one and i asked in trade chat and got blasted with offers but i have no idea what it might be worth. Thanks to anyone who reply's!

And if I were you, I'd keep the portal gem, they're pretty rare and useful (I've never seen one in 100h+ gaming).

Portal gems are valuable, and I suggest holding on to it until you get a better grasp on the economy.

Check out the website --link removed-- that the above poster mentioned. Those are the most commonly used rates while trading. Also be careful of people who are out to get newcomers such as yourself-- they would have no hesitation in the process of ripping you off.

As some one said earlier, the poe currency exchange rate site is nice, but don't take everything there literally, use it more as a ball park. Also, to get an idea of conversions between orbs you should learn what the act 3 vendor offers (i.e. you can turn 8 alterations into 1 fusing) so 1 fusing is never worth more than 8 alts.

As for Portal, keep it on your alternate weapon, you'll come to like it i'd imagine. As for a price I've seen them sell on HC for as little as 1gcp, but maybe 3gcp is a better estimate.
