Threshold Jewel Ideas (Ice Spear + Lightning Spells)
The last wave of threshold jewels added to the game a while ago featured some really interesting ones. However, there are a still many skills, especially among the lightning spells, that have been left out so far.
Below is a summary of some ideas for a few of these spells, which i feel would fit well. I also added a few examples to add some flavour and illustrate how i imagine what these could look like with respect to the current overall skill mechanic balancing. Ice Spear Ice Spear got a significant damage buff, which helped a lot in getting it more in line with other spells but there are still some things to consider about this particular skill. One is that it is the only spell that is almost exclusively single target oriented and therefore requires multiple support gems to make it a viable choice as a "clearing skill", like GMP + Pierce for example. The easiest way would be to add additional projectiles via a threshold jewel similarly to Freezing Pulse but that wouldn't be very interesting in my opinion. Instead i would much rather like to see a semi-small AoE added to its second form. Especially in combination with Herald of Ice, this would open up a different option to scale the skill in terms of passives, unique items and support gems. This option would also fit well with the skills description mentioning the term explosion for its second form. Example: ![]() Lightning Tendrils and Ball Lightning Both have seen several adjustments since their introduction. Due to the (current) nature of status ailments, however, both cannot really benefit from the ability of lightning skills to shock enemies. Shock duration is currently based on the amount of damage per hit compared to the hitpoints of the enemies but both of these skills instead deal a large number of fast and smaller hits. So even with noticeable investment into shock duration and damage, both skills have a hard time applying this status to any but the weakest of enemies where it does not matter most of the time. The easy solution here would again be to add a significant amount of shock duration but there are other skills that simply do it better like Arc and Storm Call. Instead of just numerically adjusting all lightning spells in that regard, there are other options to give those skills some power up or just a different flair. In my opinion it would make for an interesting addition to give instead give them a chance per hit to apply a different kind of effect like Blind or Shocked Ground. Examples Lightning Tendrils: ![]() ![]() Example Ball Lightning: ![]() Arc Arc is one of the best balanced allround skills in my opinion but there are two situation where it falls short: against very large groups of enemies and against single, very powerful enemies. My idea here (and many others from what i have read) is to give it either more chains or a higher damage depending on the number of enemies present.
