Details of Righteous Fire's Bonus Spell damage
|
Been interested in making a righteous fire build, but am not sure about how some damage might be calculated.
Righteous fire grants "more spell damage". Does this mean my spell damage nodes get more efficient? Or does it just take the damage a spell is about to do and then multiply it? To phrase this another way, with righteous fire on and using a fire ability (say flameblast), are spell damage nodes more efficient or equal to fire damage nodes? More and Less are multiplicative modifiers, whereas Increased and Reduced are additive. This effect is oft expressed as follows:
total Damage = Base * (Increased + Reduced) * More * Less (etc.) Basically, 40% More Damage is a separate x1.4 multiplier to your final Damage. Being a multiplier to your final damage, it doesn't change how effective Increased Damage of different types are; 10% Inc Fire Damage is always worth the same as 10% Inc Spell (assuming you use a Fire Spell :P ). Worth noting: Damage over Time is not Spell Damage, unless explicitly stated otherwise. One such example is Essence Drain. Last edited by Vipermagi#0984 on May 25, 2016, 6:09:36 PM

"This one. " I still think it's not spell damage, it's just that spell damage modifiers apply to it. Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/657756 Last edited by dudiobugtron#4663 on May 25, 2016, 6:23:18 PM

True! Suppose it's worth making that distinction, yes.

however, spell damage does not affect righteous fire
Sure, the lab can be hard, but it's pretty easy if you're properly geared, and not terrible at the game.
