question on standard ladder

I'm relatively new to poe so excuse me for the scrub question. When it comes to the ladder for the standard league, how does that work exactly? If person A hits 100 first then they are rank 1 forever, even if they just quit / go inactive? Or does PoE continously track further xp to keep everything competitive? Which that is what I would assume since it is in fact a ladder and there to show the top competing players. Again, sorry if this is common knowledge, just didnt know.

Seriously, by account creation? Not the time / date the character got 100? well thats a huge let down. I doubt i'd ever hit 100 but it'd be nice to think of being able to someday be "top" of the ladder... in my gaming fantasy world thats the thoughts that motivate me. Maybe someday they'll add increased xp to track whilest keeping the death pentalty 10% for 99-100. PoE is one of the best games i've played so maybe something will come along down the road |

If that's what motivates you, you should definitely play temp leagues. besides them being all around way cooler to play. At least thats my humble opinion.

I've always enjoyed sticking with one character. Never a fan of bouncing around. Seems dumb I guess but just what I prefer. I'll just keep on with standard and maybe eventually something will come along... or not. GG either way.
