point blank and far shot.

As the title suggests how do these two mechanics interact?

And to make even more complicated same question but with chain added to the mix

So to be specific.

1.Is point blanks penalty nullified by far shot? and if so to what extant (50% reduction in damage in distance vs 30% more damage at distance).

2.At which point are the mechanics applied when taking chain in to account (Whats the damage calculation where the arrow was shot from? then again from where the next arrow chained from? and again where it ends up ect.

This seems to me a very complicated interaction and maybe an interesting project for people that enjoy maths. And id settle for a simple point blank is made better by having far shot or not lol.

1. They do work in similar fashion but we currently don't know the exact points where each effect kicks in so we don't know what the situation is at any given distance. However, the end case is clear enough, 50% less damage and 30% more combine into 35% less damage so it doesn't come close to fully removing the penalty but it's a nice bonus.

2. The starting point is where the projectile was fired from, the origin can be you, a trap, or a totem. If the projectile forked, chained or split (tornado shot) the far shot / point blank bonus for the resulting projectile(s) will start with the value original projectile had at that point.

Thanks for your answer

In regrade to point 2. This is what i was trying to find out could a chained arrow get both the far shot bonus(minus the point blank penalty) when it first hits and then also get the point blank bonus from hitting a mob very close in the pack on the chain? It would seem to me that it would work that way almost every-time considering how the the packs of mobs are normally bunched up. It would be quite easy to shoot the first shot from max distance and then have every chain get the point blank.

I seem to remember Ziggyd doing some tests with a GGG dev that showed that your character was the determining factor for the distance penalty but i cant remember what skill they were testing and it was before far shot was available to us.

Any way will be fun testing it out.

You don't really need to bother, point blank bonus doesn't reset on pierce/fork/chain, the bonus drop will continue where it left off. It was bugged once so it worked the way you describe but it was fixed, there isn't anything left to exploit there.

the biggest current exploit with point blank is using it with ice shot, where the aoe from ice shot still holds the point blank bonus damage regardless of how big the ice shot's aoe is
it can be the whole screen and you'll still get the bonus damage.
Yeah, that goes for any attack where a projectile creates an AoE.
