Gameplay freezing
|
The game loads fine to the character selection screen and the characters load fine. Once it is loaded though, whether in town or a new character, I cannot move at all. All character animation is frozen, but water and weather effects still play. After a couple of minutes I'm booted back to the login screen.
I've tried turning off all firewalls and as many router settings i could find but nothing has helped. |

Did you remove and re-add the exclusion for Path of Exile to your Windows Firewall?
|

|
I had completely disabled Windows Firewall. But just to be sure, I just tried turning it back on and refreshed the PoE exclusion. No dice.
I've also since tried putting my PC on a DMZ in my router, set up port forwarding for PoE's range and run the game through a VPN. |

I've done a trace route for the Australia server.

Ok, while I cannot move on screen or receive any chat, my friends receive the whispers I send them.
So I'm still connected to the server I guess, just not receiving anything back. |

It's almost certainly network related... but unsure at this point which piece to have you change/fix.
Have you tried connecting to a VPN to see if it works any better? |
|
|
Tried several VPN services. Results in being unable to connect to login server.
Thanks for trying to help Drakier. I'm going out now, so will try more later today. |

OK, using a VPN did fix it in the end, I just sucked at setting it up.
Can anyone advise, if a VPN fixed the issue, does that mean it is definitely an issues caused by my ISP? |
|
|
If a VPN fixed it, it's likely an issue with the local network or provider.
Are you using a standard residential internet, or are you on a managed network like a campus or corporate network? If your network is managed, they likely don't allow the proper ports to connect for the game to function properly. |

Standard residential. I am with a new provider, but I have spoken to them this morning and they claim to not impose any restrictions that would interfere with online gaming.
Guess I'll just have to pay for a reliable VPN service if I wanna play. |
