Desire to play...
I waited and waited for this game to be released ever since they announced it back in 2010. I was lucky enough to get a beta key the first day they officially started handing them out to us forum members. I liked the idea of a dungeon crawler game similar to the old school d2 play style. So I thought...
I have come to expect a lot from the games I play. In fact I would say most have. I was excited and admittedly loved POE when I first started playing. However, the desirability to play this game wore off within a few weeks. Unlike those days of spending countless hours running around the world of Sanctuary. I'm not sure this game has enough to offer. I know POE is a different genre, but it lacks something, at least for me. I could be the one at fault for wanting more and more from my games. I think the appeal POE had to me was number 1 - it's free. However, when I start playing a game such as Skyrim then look at POE, I think ugh... I know POE and Skyrim are different play styles, but there's no denying that POE is very retro feeling and well after awhile it becomes boring. People want huge worlds where you can interact with almost anything. I mean POE is fun and all, but it doesn't grip a person like Diablo did or EQ or even WoW. The reason these games gained huge favor and audiences is because they toted the line on something new. People were immersed in the worlds and many of us had a hard time logging off at night. I feel POE had good intentions, but it doesn't have the special something to make people "not want to stop playing". I started playing Skyrim on day one of its release and I can honestly say it does have that immersive feeling. It's honestly hard to quit playing. It gives that feeling I recall from my first months of Diablo. The days where you would put the kids to bed at 8 or 9 and plan to play an hour or so; then the next thing you know it's 4am and your having to force yourself to go to bed to get those oh few precious hours of sleep. I know I've rambled on and unsure if I have got my point across, but basically I'm saying POE is fun... for awhile. Unfortunately, at least for this player . It doesn't have the 'wow' factor that makes a person want to keep playing and playing and playing. It did a good job of capturing the style of Diablo, but those days are past - games have evolved and this one fell short. Don't get me wrong I will play it again at some point. Then again that is the whole point of this post. I will play it... just when I'm bored of everything else...if that happens... maybe Not to be a troll or anything so I'll be nice and give something to the faithful. So can I has your beta account?
| |
We all play it for different reasons
You played it purely for fun Some play it to help PoE improve Some play it to reminisce D2 in better graphics Either ways you have to remind yourself This game is in beta, its not there to just be enjoyed yet(not completely of course) It's here for experimenting and testing I'm pretty positive the final product of this game will be much more appealing |

only 2 acts are completed... im assuming in a game like this devs will release new content for us quite regularly even as most f2p games do. and even diablo 2 was not a giant world, in any case if skyrim had multi player i would play that more, i do own it but dont play as much as i do poe. but this is an entirely different type of game.
hc character deaths
1. Squish_This lvl 19 witch 12/15/2011 death by lag 2. DPyeS lvl 13 witch 12/18/2011 death by mega lag 3. i_stab_you lvl 27 duelist death by bloodrage and reflects (current default character) current hc character i_smash_you level 8+ marauder |

As you say yourself poe is obviously not for you.
I on the other hand get that same feeling as i did when i first played d2, I've been playing poe since the 10th of august and all other games games just don't give me that feeling and poe doesn't even have all content in it yet. Maybe you should wait for the final release and come back, maybe you'll enjoy it more... |

To me this game is very addictive. I bought Skyrim when it first came out and played it through to lvl 36, I enjoyed the massive world and the depth of characters and interactions. I also grew bored of it. I needed action. Everyone has a certain type of game they enjoy above others, the OP wants immersion, I want action.
Having tested POE since early July I have watched the game evolve into what it is today and will continue to watch it evolve until release. Even after testing it for so long I can’t put it down, other games (Rage, Skyrim, Fallout NV, Battlefield) have all fallen by the wayside in favour of POE. It is hard to explain but POE captures the “just one more kill” feeling and once all the lore is complete it may even satisfy the basic needs of a gamer who seeks immersion. The “flavour text” on the unique weapons is just a start. RIP Bolto

To me waiting for the key is almost as fun as playing the game :D
