Trials of Ascendancy

The ancient Azmerians constructed complex Trials, to test aspiring leaders; body, mind and soul. To select candidates for his Labyrinth, Emperor Izaro revived this tradition with his own sinister designs.

There are six Trials of Ascendancy to discover as you travel through Wraeclast. Each Trial showcases a specific type of trap, acting as a form of deadly tutorial. As you complete the six Trials, your character earns access to the Lord's Labyrinth in that difficulty level.

Trial of Piercing Truth

"Inflated confidence is so easily perforated" - Emperor Izaro

Spike Traps can trigger on many criteria, from the weight of an intruder to a complex pattern designed by the Labyrinth's architects.

Trial of Lingering Pain

"Trouble patrols ceaselessly" - Emperor Izaro

Blade Sentries roam on a specific path, either on the ground or flying above obstacles. Their rotating blades do more damage the closer you are to them.

Trial of Crippling Grief

"A maw of spinning teeth, eager to tear into your flesh." - Emperor Izaro

Sawblades run back and forward in straight lines, dismembering those who step into them. They can often be switched on and off with nearby levers.

Trial of Swirling Fear

"Whirling death that dismembers and eviscerates" - Emperor Izaro

Spinning Blades run along a track in the ground, maiming those who get too close. They can sometimes be diverted from one track to another.

Trial of Burning Rage

"The ground heaves and seethes in its distemper" - Emperor Izaro

Furnace Traps are areas of the ground that heat up and cool down on a cycle. When they are cooled down, you have a short amount of time to step on them before the incineration begins. Some monsters are able to walk on the Furnace unharmed.

Trial of Stinging Doubt

"It takes resolution to walk through the hornets' nest" - Emperor Izaro

Dart Shooters periodically fire projectiles that damage and slow their victims. These are often linked to hidden pressure plates. Watch your step.
