Is swearing against the rules?

I've seen some mods mute people/remove posts because of it yet some other mods say that it's perfectly legal.

A response from a mod or dev would be greatly appreciated.

Note that I'm talking about using swear words, not insulting others.

Regards.

Swearing in and of itself is fine. This is a mature game with some pretty dark fucking themes going on.

What is not allowed is using that swearing to abuse others, to be hateful towards anyone or otherwise incite conflict between players.

Spamming, swearing or otherwise -- not cool.

Naturally, racist terms and sexually insensitive words such as everyone's favourite homosexual slur are not accepted. Ever.

We really didn't have much problem with this in Closed Beta, but I suppose it was easier to communicate with just one Global Chat how to behave but also how to enjoy how lenient and laissez-faire the moderators were.

Also keep in mind that with the right-click Report function, people are being reported for things that I personally wouldn't care about. This is, of course, GGG's fault for not making clear the boundaries people can and cannot cross. Again, we moderators sort of set the standard during Closed Beta there, but with so many global chats, we can't do that anymore.

Support staff are not always as lenient or contextually understanding as an in-the-flesh moderator, but I can say their mute durations are really quite short now. Mere slaps on the wrist most times.

If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

Yeah I got muted for talked about 72 virgins, yet the guy talking about raping babies went on for an hour. Wasn't really a big deal honestly, I didn't even realize I was muted til 5 seconds before it was up. Still annoyed me as I am one of the more helpful players and always on.

When you're right, no one remembers. When you're wrong, no one forgets.
Oh, and let me make the distinction here:

Muting refers to in-game removal of global chat privileges. It's done for in-game infractions.

Probation refers to out-of-game removal of forum posting privileges. It's usually a result of repeat offenses on the board but sometimes conduct in-game can be reflected here.

The two are linked but not the same thing.

Anything more severe than that, such as a ban (always considered permanent) are at GGG's discretion and very, very much not where most muting and probation incidents end up.

Which I'm thankful for. Not a fan of the death penalty, so to speak.

I'll lock this now, but no doubt others will ask in the future.

keep in mind that's for the forum, and to be honest, if you uphold ANY ToU/ToS to the letter, you might as well live in Oceania and believe Big Brother loves you.

GGG is working on a more functional EULA sort of dealy.
