Dual Totem + Summons/Curse--Leveling

I want to make a dual totem character like in this video:

I also want to use summons or curses, or both.

But how does this level if you don't get the spell totem until cruel difficulty? (It's a quest reward from Act 1 Cruel).

Do I level as some sort of caster? If so, wouldn't it be more efficient to start as a witch and level minions/curses first and then head over to the templar side?

How do you level as a dual totem templar, and why templar over witch?

Level up with melee. Use sweep or ground slam.

You use Templar because they have one of the safest starting node areas --> lots of life/regen and mana regen. They are also closer to totems than witch.

But if you don't use totems until spell totem, why not roll witch and then move over to totems by the time you get spell totem?

I'd really like to know if templar or witch is better for dual spell totem.

i've lvled my templar with molten shell and firestorm. both take % from passives anyway, and molten deals enormous dmg and provides decent def until end of a2. Just cast molten, run into mobs, cast firestorm, repeat, molten will eventually blow up and finish bigger mobs. Its very effective, too bad you cant play fire templar at higher lvl, its awesome.
