Please help a newbie,

Hello Dear Players.
I started playing Templar class and don't know all about this HUGE Passive Tree. But i decided to take Elemental damage Tree and Lighting element as main spells. Can any wise player help me with picking the right build, and do i need to take in Tree stats as Increasing max life, Armor, Energy shields etc. 1H mace/Wand + Shield. All suggestions will be useful for newbie's like me.
