The point of hardcore is bragging rights, not character benefits.

I'm probably gonna play exclusively on hardcore, for the added excitement from the risk it provides.
I lost my mind a few months ago, too lazy to go looking for it.

Considering how hardcore on Diablo worked, this is a much easier thing to live with for most people.
