Deminishing potion uses in hardcore
We all know about potion popping in diablo, and how it basically makes you near immortal. This game has a bit of a better system, but it's still possible for you to go into a fight with full health potions, and have almost no chance of dying whatsoever is it not? Well a feature that would make the game much more difficult, and add a bit more complexity to combat, would be that the more you use potions over a short period of time, the less effective they become.
The human body is very complex, and much more so back when they didn't have much knowledge of it, so it would make more sense that potions wouldn't just restore your body to perfect each time, and instead would just heal up your cuts and bruises the best they can, and eventually when you accumulate too many cuts and bruises the potions can't fix you up very much at all anymore. Thus making you less immortal when you go into a fight, and making you rely much much more on skill and armor and such. Just a suggestion as to how to make the game more challenging, if only in hardcore mode. I lost my mind a few months ago, too lazy to go looking for it. "While you've got an interesting idea, methinks the appeal to realism with respect to magical abilities, potions, and health bars falls a bit flat. |

"I just can't get past how this potion heals me fully... hold on while i blast this screen of ghosts with my ice spells"
I'm failing to see how permanent damage that can't be healed by potions will make the game more difficult instead of tedious and boring. Everyone playing hardcore would just play a ranged character and fight 1 enemy at a time because the chance of potions not working is there. How about we say that the flasks are magic, and the magic potion can heal insane wounds because... it is magic! This can even be explained by lore if you want, but personally I am able to suspend disbelief for video games. I'm fine with thugs dropping full turkeys or sandwiches that can miraculously heal me to pristine condition. I do agree that potion popping can be problematic in games to the point that strategy boils down to "spam potions and attack keys until everything dies" but that can easily be solved with a potion timer or by making it heal slowly. |

It was more about the whole popping potions constantly than the realism, but i suppose it was a failed idea since they've already got a system in place where you can't have like 30 potions on you at once. At some point if you're fighting a particularly tough monster the potions you're using will eventually run out, so they've handled it well enough.

From watching videos and live streaming I totally agree with what you're saying...
There seems to be an over reliance in the usage of potions... Even in the endgame. Support. Youtube:
