Added to Alpha Sporadically...........Can You Clarify That?
" I'm not sure I understand this correctly. I know that there had been a couple forum members added around the beginning of the year (or maybe it was the end of last year, somewhere around that point I believe). I also know that there were several members who PM'd you darkspore keys who were (maybe?) added to the alpha. Aside from these few additions, do you mean that you have been adding in other forum members? If so, can you tell us how many? How did you go about determining who to select to add (active on forums, had intelligent things to say, randomly drew their name from a hat, etc.) Also, how many people are playing in the alpha right now? Are these new players only added when there is a new build put out (i.e. Alpha update 0.8.0 in mid-April) or are they added on any given day? Thanks for the clarification! IIRC, Chris stated they add in alpha members in 3 ways: promotional purposes (given out to gaming journalists and shit or something like that), completely randomly out of all of the registered users, and occasionally they add users who are helpful on the forum. I believe Chris also stated that they didn't give access to the alpha because some members gave them keys to a closed beta, the members were already on the radar for alpha access (also I believe it was Mythos, not Darkspore).

Ah, that's right. It was Mythos, good call.
I'd still be curious to know how many members (a specific number, or at least really close estimate) have been added specifically from the forums (whether from being useful on the forums or completely randomly selected) and from keys given out for promotional purposes. Also, how many people are currently participating the alpha all together? Thanks in advance! Also, what if there was something like a raffle to give out one (or more?) alpha key (or beta depending on where the development is at) per month (or shorter time period?)? This would help generate some more excitement because you could be selected to get in game tomorrow. Maybe the way you get your name in the raffle is that you have to make at least one post per month (or whatever the time frame was). You couldn't get multiple tickets in (increase your chances of being selected) so as long as you were active on the forums in some shape or form, you would have a chance to get a key. You could also do the selection in another way, I was just spitballing ideas. Thoughts? In since 0.8.0

We've added two people from the forums to the 0.7.x Alpha and have three people queued up for 0.8.0. We'll probably add another three or so for 0.8.1, etc.
By the time we enter closed beta (0.9.0, early August), we'd like there to be several hundred people in the alpha. All of the above information may change. Lead Developer. Neat glad to hear more people are making it unto the beta. Also anyone can answer this, but how does the numbering system work.
1.0.0 being the release of the game? 0.8.0 being the new upcoming update. So the first number is the full game version. Which is a big change. The second number is a medium level change, and the last number a minor update. I was just curios what they represented. Yes good sir, I enjoy slaying mythical creatures.

1.0.0 will indeed be release, but we have the following planned for now:
0.8.x = April alpha update (Act 2) 0.9.x = closed beta 0.10.x = open beta (Act 3?) 1.x.x = release 2.x.x = first major expansion and so on Lead Developer. " troll harder. Frankly PoE doesn't have to worry too much about the competition because it has something very significant that all of the others don't have: it's free. |
