Is Desync going to be the game killer?

That being said, I really do hope it improves. Especially the crap where the game thinks you're stuck so it just teleports you forward into a room you never entered... even though I wasn't stuck.

I'm pretty sure they added that in to help people who were trapped, but it fires off sometimes when I'm just standing around shooting and it really bugs me.

See... this is what's wrong. You did enter the room. You walked into the room to kill a monster that you targeted. You're just not accepting that fact because you think you're playing the game you see on your client. You didn't teleport. As long as you continue to think that you teleport into the room, you'll never understand what's happening and you'll continue to be frustrated rather than learn to deal with it.

Desync isn't about "getting stuck". You don't get stuck. On your screen, you've reacted differently than the character in the game has reacted. The "teleport" effect (called rubberbanding) is the client correcting it's mistake to show you what is actually happening in the game. Quit believing the client. Learn to "know" what's actually happening in the game that you never really see.

What's actually happening when "you're standing around shooting stuff" is that you target a monster that appears to be in view, but is actually in a different position and blocked by a wall or other terrain. In the real game, your character moves to a position to attack this monster and fires his projectile. On the client, he stays where he is and fires. If you keep this up for 4-10 seconds or so, you'll get massively out of sync with the real game. Your character is actually rooms away from where you see him on your client because you insist on telling him to keep attacking monsters than you think you can hit but are actually not in sight of your character. You need to quit doing that.

Most annoying desynch I had was in Lunaris, those Rightous Fire guys lit up somewhere (which did not show on my screen), I thought running away would be faster than enter+/oos+enter. But even though I ran for almost 2 rooms, I still died to Rightous Fire from a mob that does not show on my screen.

Desynch happens, best thing to do is make peace with it and stay away from hardcore leagues, because if that happened to me in HC I would absolutely rage quit (and probably smash my keyboard :] )

No. You weren't running away. You thought you were. The client thought you were. The real game being played thought differently. You never ran for almost two rooms. Quit thinking that you're playing the game on your client and start understanding what's actually happening.

Nice assumptions.

So when I hold Shift and stand still and attack, I'm not actually holding shift? I'm just clicking on monsters in random rooms because you assume I started playing last week?

When I eat food am I really just sitting here starving? Is reality a farce?

I perfectly well understand how to deal with what is "actually" happening most of the time. I don't click on stuff in other rooms because I know my guy will chase them to hell and back. I'm telling you, I've played for like 1,000 hours and ever since they patched in that mechanic to relocate your character, it sometimes happens unnecessarily . I think it is dependent on certain skills or areas or something because it happens on some characters a lot more than others.

Thanks for sounding like a douche and defending probably the worst possible mechanics anyone has ever seen in a video game lol.

And stop treating people like they are idiots because they "believe the client." I know when not to believe it, but the problem here is we should be able to believe it.

Desync doesn't even register with players after they understand it and get used to it. It does modify how you play. You have to pause every so often for the game to sync (even when you don't think you need to). You can't just keep attacking even though you're full of mana and "ready" to. Let the game catch up every now and then.

Or you can just type/use a macro to /oos when you're getting Out Of Sync
You're always out of sync. /oos doesn't fix that. The problem is that it takes a measurable amount of time for your command to reach the server, be processed and returned to the the client... measured in seconds. The game is forced to deal with that, and with the mechanics that the game has been designed to include, it's doing it the best that it can.
Had a few interesting moments when throwing a fireball at an angry zombie infront of me, only my fireball went off to the side, flew off the screen and promptly killed the thing standing right there. Then, I was standing about in an empty area, goofing about with my passives and was being hit by something that didn't exist.. I looked about and didn't see anything.. dropped a totem, and it quite happily killed whatever it was, which also incidentally dropped a unique. It wasn't a particularly good unique, but, hey cant have everything.

Must suck to experience this in HC. I appreciate the situation.
The dysync is not bad enough for me not to have fun and play, but they won't get a dime of my money until it's fixed. =)
