is the wipe really definite?

this beta has been going for a long while and lot of people already played it seriously and it went beyond simple testing. Any chance that we will not get a wipe?

No, because of the simple fact that they want to level all players, give them equal chances, when starting open beta.

In addition they've already made substantial changes they need to wipe. Specifically all the IIQ / IIR gear that's no longer possible.
Not to mention the inclusion of Act 3 will completely throw off the level progression.

Plus there are many people running around with items, that no longer drop.

They have to do it to keep balance.

I have been having a blast testing out builds and such and as long as I keep it in the back of my mind that they will be wipe, I have no problem.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

If people have been playing for reasons other than testing and/or the pure fun of the immediate experience, they're been willfully ignorant of what a closed beta is :)

I guess I understand a bit though, in the first patch I played in I really put in huge amounts of time, way past what would be useful for testing/fun, by farming items and grinding XP. Even though in the back of my mind I knew it was all going to be wiped, I couldn't help myself.

I'm actually looking forward to the wipe, to force me to houseclean.

Deep down, part of me even kind of wishes we would have a wipe once a year. One of the advantages of a ladder race league I guess is that new car smell fresh feeling ;-).
I swear, I see a thread like this every week or so... the answer hasn't changed- nor will it.

Is it really that big of a deal? It's not that hard to level a character to 50+, to find items, and to start back up again. Make some friends, trade for gems that you need, and you'll be fine.
One last time. The wipe will come - nothing else.

All players have to be at least technically equal in terms of level, wealth and other things. Otherwise it would destroy the reason of a big mainladder for each mode if these level 80+ characters still exist and believe me its quite some time past 75-80.

Another point is that the game needs a fix starting point. Where is the motivation to play if you keep all your stuff? Why would you look forward to open beta / release? And another small point...sometimes it seems like there are some items around of earlier game versions and these might not fit the balance anymore.

With currency in detail keeping all would ruin the economy for the new players completely so its not appealing to them at all. Keep in mind it is supposed to get MUCH more players into the game and it has to catch them, make fun. This would not be the case if they get dominated by all us rich players who just buy and craft all our gear together again in a few days.
