Random brain fart - What my ultimate RPG would look like

My ultimate, dream game, one I wish someone would build because it would rock and everyone would love it.

The games background story:
Present time, You wake up to a tremendous noise outside your bedroom. For some reason your bedroom door frame is glowing and as you open it to investigate; you are sucked into a swirling mass of colors.

Sometime later you wake up and find yourself lying on a cold stone floor and with a bump on the head. Looking around to surveil your surroundings you discover that you are no longer in your house but appear to be in a room with a stone floor, dimly lit by glowing blue lights along the ceiling. There is a single door in the far wall.

Not finding anything of use in the room you approach the door and it silently opens to reveal a courtyard bustling with activity. Your jaw drops as you see people and strange creatures dressed in all manner of clothing and armor milling about various stalls and vendors.

If this is a dream it sure is the most vivid you've ever experienced.

A strangely dressed fellow in bright orange garments approaches you and in a low whisper says "New arrival, eh?". You nod hesitantly and he continues "Lots of new faces lately, I wonder what it means? I've been here for oh, hmm I forget but it's been several decades at least! You should speak to Mayor, he'll help sort you out and explain what's going on." He points towards a doorway with red lettering that says "Mayor".

You nod and grumble thanks while rubbing your head. As you amble over to the mayors door you take in the sights. Why is everyone wearing what appears to be various sorts of armor and why are they carrying all manner of weaponry and for that matter, why is there a huge glowing portal in the center of the courtyard?

You finally get to the mayors and peer into the room. It's nothing lavish, a simple room with stone floors, the same blue lighting along the ceiling and a small table behind which sits a rather well fed man with a huge beard.

As you enter his room you looks up at you and says "ah, another one! Something must be happening, we've had 4 of you in the last week alone. Come closer and let me have a look at you. Do you have a name? I'm the mayor, pleased to meet you. I guess you will be wondering what in heavens is going on around here? Right? Let me start off by saying, this is not a dream. I will hazard a guess and say that you walked through a glowing door and woke up here, am I right am I right? Obviously. This is all real buddy, I used to work at a restaurant in Kentucky and one evening I went to the washroom on my break and the next thing I know the door is glowing and here I was."

You ask "But where is this place?", to which he replies "nobody truly knows, oh sure there are a million theories but the best guess we have is that we are in another dimension."
"Another dimension!" you shout accidentally. "How is this possible?" you ask, to which he replies "My friend, nobody knows. We simply wake up here and make use of the rooms and the portal in the courtyard."

"Yes I saw this portal, what is it?" you ask. He replies "we don;t know how it works but this portal will bring whoever enters it to a random location. Once you enter the location you work your way to the exit and bring whatever you find of use back with you."

"Work your way to the exit?" you blurt. "What does that mean and what do you mean by whatever you find of use?". He develops a grim expression and says "we'll since you wouldn't know, I'll explain. The only way we get resources is by entering the portal, fighting any strange manner of beasts we encounter and trying to survive to the exit."

He continues "I can tell by your shocked expression that this is the last thing you expected to be doing today or until further notice, but everyone must attempt the portals. You see, our theory is that eventually one of the places we enter will have some sort of explanation or way for us to return to our homes."

And so here begins the rest of your life.

---------

You can enter the portal as often as you like.
You gain experience and can upgrade or change skills as you go, using a skill tree like POE.
You can use any manner of armor and weaponry and slot gems, like POE.

As you gain experience, the game gets harder.

Instead of having any quests or any more story line the game centers around killing all manner of beasts and finding sweet gear and weapons to use as well as customizing your character completely. From tattoos to bad habits in the courtyard (games like poker, etc) you can do side stuff when you get tired of slaughtering.

The game system would have
1. random dungeons/tiles/environments
2. beasts that have multiple or interchangeable appearances. for instance the arms of one beast could be used on another and vice versa. To create more variety in the bestiary.
3. items and gear would have near unlimited appearance options, again for variety. example the hilt of this dagger could be used in the hilt of that sword, etc. color changes, damage effects etc.
4. leader boards for daily, weekly dungeons complete, beasts killed, etc

and more but I need to go eat

drop me a pm if anyone's interested in discussing further

awww man you are not the only one who dreams he could make a game, me too my friend, me too

I did not read all of the story, sorry but game mechanics wise, it sounds pretty cool, never thought of random item and enemy appearances that's a great idea!

I'm (sort of) working on something, I got a bunch of documents that describe the entire game concept wise (story, mechanics, items, dialogue etc) but...yeah, it's only ideas, I know nothing how to actually make a game technically

I just have ideas but that's worth pretty much nothing

to make a game you need skill/knowledge and a lot of money

I don't have that

But it's always awesome to meet someone who also has an imagination for coming up with things

I could go in more detail but I'm a bit paranoid about people stealing others ideas, lets just say I got concepts for:

2 musical instruments, 3 video games, 1 computer 'tool?', 1 'desk'

I had a bunch more ideas in the past and I am actually using a modified desk and musical instrument, they're awesome
Some of the writing needs work. I'm guessing that the rough draft is what you shared here because there are a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes. I'd also like to suggest that you work in themes and not try to be the best everything, rather try to define a niche. Games and their fans are brutally unforgiving in today's industry and just thinking of a neat story-line and a few mechanics features won't get you noticed.

With that said, I think you have good ideas that need more brainstorming and I cannot dis your effort to bring new experiences to the gamer's of the world. When you get to a good point in your idea, you will have to make much tougher decisions about your game than that of deciding what you want in it. Some of these decisions include, PC vs. Console, ports if you choose one or the other, narrative, voice acting, and many more that you don't really deal with during the conceptual phase of game creation.

Game creation, to an extent is iterative, which means a lot if not all of your first ideas will be largely unfamiliar (if in the game at all) to you by the time you go to try and create them. Those ideas will then take shape and make for a whole new set of ideas and challenges.

If you want to be a game creator and you're serious just know that it's not all fun and games (pun intended) but can be very rewarding in the end. Some of the world's greatest problem solvers are game designers in my opinion and if you wanted to go into that field I'd say you almost need to have a passion for it.

Some discrepancies I see just skimming through. The start of the story isn't as strong as it could be and you have redundant events happening. When you visualize that, it seems kind of silly. Specifically, I am talking about waking up twice in the start. Just think of it this way. the first fifteen minutes of your story needs to catch the persons attention and draw them in.

I learned how to do this through reading comics. Comics are laid out in a very specific way. They always start out with a captivating scenario and end on a cliffhanger. Cliffhangers are incredibly effective at getting people interested into what's going to happen next and you're falling somewhat short in that area. especially at the start.

I had an idea that could tie into both your story and features. Your portals idea and the highly interchangeability of your environments weapons and more could come together by explaining to the player through the story line that you have been sucked into a sort of infinite Wormhole that allows you to travel through time and space and even visit other dimensions.

At any rate, keep up with your brainstorming and lay out priorities. Make task charts if you need to. Good luck out there!

Mine would simply be Hellgate London but with PoE skill rtee/gems on top of that.

I would make a dual Hu's Hypershot fire nova on hit witch <3
Maker of ZeeL's Amplifier.
