Mercs are a great addition to the game, I hope they go core.

When they were first revealed I was very skeptical about how good mercs would be, they looked terrible in the reveal video but after playing the league I have been pleasantly surprised.

They bring a lot of positives to the game and best of all they are completely optional if you dislike using them.

some extra QoL if they core would be nice, like more slots or the ability to itemize/trade them or the ability to roll for them in kingsmarch as another gold sink ? for example if you're looking for a specific ability / combo merc. remove the attribute restrictions for gear would also be pog.

adding a couple of new mercs with new ability combos each league for players to find would be awesome too. selling merc creation like valdos maps / reliquary keys ? you guys struck gold.

atlas tree nodes basically write themselves if you go that direction for adding them to core, for example; increased chances for better items / rucksack loot, mercs of X stat can/can't appear, higher chance at infamous or things like when you engage a merc in combat their friends will also jump you and drop their rucksack loot, endless possibilities.

also allow us to MTX their abilities too.

Given the absolutely absurd amount of player power mercs are handing out, it’s already pretty clear they’re not going core. GGG has skipped far more balanced and interesting league mechanics in the past, Crucible, Scourge, even Sanctum relics, all of which offered significantly less power but still got shelved. Mercs, on the other hand, just dump pure stats and currency into your lap. There’s no real gameplay loop worth preserving, just another layer of overkill in a power creep cycle that’s already spinning out of control.

I think they will go core but like most other things if they do, they will be changed and nerfed as the current model offers way to much.

maybe if they drop disable doryani's/toe it might work, but GGG probably didn't realize how many uniques are an issue. Before they balanced good aura unqiues around the fact animate guardian can't wear certain items and items were dropped on death. Mercs don't drop items, and they can get anoints, and they can wear a full set of gear.

In all honesty the biggest buff mercs give to players not doing degenerate things is a party loot buff in solo mode.

Hard pass.

besides powercreep and a loot multiplier its a boring "take 1 item" box. out of a league mechanic perspective this was the worst league in many years.

You don't want this added to core. Giving everyone an Animate Guardian for almost free is going to result in significant power spikes for all players. Whenever something like this happens, GGG nerfs the entire game by boosting all monster HP and damage. I've seen this happen 3 times, and each time it has, barely-viable builds are no longer viable, and the things that made builds powerful are now a necessity.

Mercs won't become an option in this scenario. They will become not only a requirement for any build, but only a specific group of mercs will become the only choice.

Trust me on this, you don't want them to go core.

I am genuine surprised that someone takes it as positive. For me it's one of the worst and shallow league mechanic.
It's bring literally zero depth to the game.
