Kingsmarch, Refiner's Bargain, and Resource Generation
As a casual player (because I work 40 hours a week), I have some frustrations about how Kingsmarch has been implemented in the base game.
Thesis—We need one of the following buffs: -Better and more explicitly dedicated methods for gold generation outside of Gilded Allflames/etc, or -Better returns from Refiner's Bargain. Reasoning and suggestion below. What is gold required for? -Currency trading via Faustus -Labor in Kingsmarch -Recombination How much gold can you get in a map? -Depends entirely on the type of content you have in the map and how you juice it. -Lower bounds for a T16 map: ~5,000-7,000 -Higher bounds: best I've managed so far is around 50,000 and that's with roughly 40c of investment in scarabs/etc; if I were willing to spend on an Allflame for that purpose, I'm sure I would be swimming in gold but be broke otherwise. What does gold investment convert into in Kingsmarch? -Crops from farming -Ores and bars, from mining/smelting -Dust, from disenchanting -Map loot, from runners All of these except the last one are material for shipments. So, Kingsmarch is generally a multi-step process for converting excess gold into loot. So far, so good. Enter Refiner's Bargain. Refiner's Bargain converts resources from three content types into Kingsmarch materials: Harvest lifeforce into Crops, Delve Sulphite into random Ores, and 5% of possessed Rares convert drops into Dust. At its core, this mechanic allows Kingsmarch users to forego use of one or all Kingsmarch functions for mining/farming/disenchanting, and therefore save gold. The problem, in my opinion, is that it forces us to spec quite hard into those mechanics while forfeiting their wealth generation such that the opportunity cost is far too high. It feels like noob bait in Atlas keystone form. My suggestions for Refiner's Bargain, as simple as possible: -Ore generation from Niko nodes is fine, but make it so that Sulphite-hoarding monsters and the map-complete-bonus also grant ore. -Massively raise the crop return from Harvest. -Significantly raise the dust generation from possessed Rares, or make them convert to Gold instead (though that may defy GGG's theme/design philosophy for this keystone).
