Can't close Trials of Chaos gate after dying?

I can't do any trials. Can't close the gate after dying since there's no "Close" button, only the greyed out "Open" button. Putting a new Ultimatum doesn't work, "The operation could not be completed". If I try to join, "Cannot connect to instance. That subarea no longer exists". My alts are not affected by this.
