feedback on using a controller on PC
So I've been playing for about 70 to 80 hours since release, the entire time on a controller on my PC, and I have some issues / feedback I would like to give.
1. Being unable to switch from controller to mouse input. feels bad. While I prefer using a controller for moment to moment gamepla,y actually fighting and character movement, using a mouse is just so much more convenient when I'm trying to sort my inventory or search through the passive tree. So currently being unable to freely the switch back and forth is a bummer. I imagine this will likely change but I wanted to say something about it anyway. I actually quite like the controller / console UI for the pause menu, I don't need it to look like POE1, I just want to be able to use a mouse on it. 2. Marks. The character I've played the most is a ranger I'm doing a lightning build that uses a mark, I've noticed some odd behavior when casting it while moving. I think it best I give an example. In the black jaw fight is a good one, in that fight it's only one boss versus you, and circle strafing and dodging his attacks is pretty straightforward. The behavior I kept noticing was I would be moving from left to right, I would press the button for my mark My character would turn towards the wall and cast the mark on the wall instead of the boss. I can only assume this is because when I press the button to cast the mark it searches for a input for direction and the only input it's getting is from my left thumbstick. This happened even when I was using focus target mode. I don't think I need to explain why casting something on not the enemy feels bad. 3. Projectiles with travel time. This is again specific to the lightning ranger I was playing, I was using lightning rods because of their interaction with lightning arrow. The issue I kept having was not really being able to aim lightning rods, I would see a pack of enemies, they would start sprinting at me I would press lightning rods and it would hit where they were rather than where they are. This wouldn't be a big of an issue on mouse, because I could lead the targets. And I do know that there is a targeting mode for lightning rods in particular. But it feels really weird to use. It's another thing to think about on top of moving my character and moving a targeting radical trying not to die just to cast a single ability. I'd like to see an option to limit the cast range to be like half or so of its max, that way I could always lead targets just by pressing the ability and having it hit closer. Rather than it snapshotting the furthest distance and hitting that spot when the enemy is sprinting at me. If there is already a way to do this I haven't found it. 4. Abilities that target multiple things. Specifically I'm talking about abilities that target corpses and living enemies. Unearth is a great example, I found on multiple occasions that unearth would target a corpse rather than an enemy that was attacking me, and it would ignore my right thumbstick input to target the corpse. This just feels like I priority issue, like it's priority is to hit corpses above my other targets and even my thumb stick input. I'm looking forward to seeing what this game has to offer as new things can implemented. Last bumped on Dec 28, 2024, 10:07:52 AM

An update on number four, The setting that changes the amount of time you stick to a target before switching to the next, mitigates this issue. If not completely alleviates this issue. Changing it to be the lowest amount of time allows for Way more freedom of targeting, I stil feel that my right thumb stick input should Trump any of the automatic targeting. It's a tricky thing to get right, because what is essentially aim assist is useful, and even necessary for the game to feel as good as it does. I would hate to be off by a fraction of degree and miss an ability, because I can't be as precise as a mouse.
So for now changing the length of time your targeted onto something helps a lot, but doesn't feel intuitive to need to change it. |
