Opening delirium didn't spawn delirium monsters

Opened delirium mirror in t1 map but there was no delirium monsters spawned. I picked up shrine effect right before I entered the mirror. I'm not sure if that is related.

Same thing happened to me just now on a T4 Creek map. I got the dialogue lines, the desaturated screen effect and the nondescript background voices, but 0 monsters spawned. Tried portalling out and back in, but still nothing.
