(warrior bias) but player animations don't fit this combat at all
I'm really enjoying the movement/dodge souls like gameplay and all for a change, but...
The PoE bullet hell is still here. All the memes about rolling and rolling comes from how OP is just not getting hit on iframes For bosses it feels ok and rewarding but overall map clearing and high density it becomes stupid to this point where you roll and roll and roll and jump away to find a damn safe spot to cast your two years long animation to deal damage. Everything is just too slow on players side but monsters are still doing their bullet hell shit. it feels bad having to cancel animation over and over and over just to not die to white monsters. I would say player attacks should get like 2x faster at minimum to feel at least not so annoying Earthquake for instance, being on the extreme side of this just feels like a funny joke/meme which no one could seriously design it that way, like ofc it shouldn't be like this, right? right?? ofc we have reduced duration mods and atk speed but they're not really available early on and by the look of things not vastly available at all. It just feels BAD. you guys went too far with the ''it gets better later on'' design of things and made early game just disgusting. We know this kind of design won't hold ppl to end game. The game must feel GOOD from the start and get BETTER later on. Aside from all the common feedback about zones and campaign design, the combat animations is what really makes me just afk in town from quest to quest since I got to Act 3. I think I just had enough of it too soon. I don't wanna go back to kill monsters asap because the combat is just not fun the way it is. As many people are already saying it's not about difficulty, bosses feel great. Now when it comes to the PoE side of things it just doesn't feel good. This resonates with me as my choice was warrior as well.
I would liken the power progression dilemma to Terraria which I think handled it fantastic. I'll explain. In Terraria you start with a simple axe, pickaxe and short sword. Nothing crazy. No wings, rocket boots, invulnerability trinkets, etc. This is all attained later in the game. Terraria handles when you need something very well. The early game doesn't throw anything at you that you cannot deal with using your little toolkit of bronze pickaxe, axe and short sword. Well then we look to Elden Ring and PoE 2. Elden Ring is hated by a lot of people but I'll say this much. In Elden Ring you can in less than an hour attain a lot of power from the game to make the early game a joke. You can't do this in PoE 2. You're forced to go through the early game with simple tools and so none of it feels good. It all feels oppressive. If Terraria were throwing zombies at you out of the gate with your bronze tools that would be the equivalent of how GGG is using the early game of PoE 2. Mind I was not a fan of the retuning of the first two acts of PoE 1 either. Same reason. Most of PoE 2 for me was not challenging. I learned pretty quickly how to drop the shockwave totem + EQ + Boneshatter for fast clears. The trash is at least up to A2 not that bad. Bosses were another story though. Especially bosses with a lot of ground degen and slows. My 2h mace approach was miserable to experience. Too slow to do anything and I mean movespeed and aps. Also being shoved around because of the new animation system. I would like to see some retuning of the early act bosses and the trial boss. So that running it as a witch, merc, monk, warrior, etc all feels pretty equitable. |
