Soul Eater is all the rage...
...among rares these days. I am seeing 3-5 per map, where I "used to" see 0-1, and very rarely 2. I don't like it.
I have been running Abyss and Beyond, if it matters, and this is in league (again, if it matters...which I doubt in both cases). Always a possibility that I am doing something differently to produce these results, but it doesn't seem likely to an extent that would make such a big difference. Could it be the sheer number of rares resulting from the Abyss mechanic? Again, it doesn't seem likely, because rares seem to have this mod more often in general. You might have an unlucky streak.
AFAIK they some time ago also changed the spawn rules a bit, so that now if you have one monster with mod x in an area, other monsters are like to also have that mod so you don't have to cope with too many different mods. Granted, when that happens with soul eater or those lightning totem mobs, it's not really fun. If you then happen to have A LOT of rares... you'll see them everywhere. At least soul eater got easier now the effect wears off when no new souls are consumed. Bird lover of Wraeclast

If all rares have 6+ extra mods (scarab + B2B map mod), of course you'll get some mods multiple times per map.

I think part of it is that it's one of the tougher mods, so you notice it more. On my levelling build I was noticing it all the time, and made some comments on the forum that it was overturned. Since building a later game build I haven't noticed it once and didn't even remember what it was initially when reading this post.
I think (not certain), that more of the rare mob mods have been removed than added in the last few leagues, since around arch nemesis. Or at least tuned down, so the mod pool might be smaller or seem less variable. A few leagues back I was mainly concerned about running into effigy and before that probably some lightning mods. Point being that it's much more noticeable when getting mods that seem to be a lot harder to tackle than the average difficulty level mods, of which a lot I probably don't even know what they do. There seems to be less corpse explosion and running around outside range of exploding things this league. Yeah my current build has a lot of movement speed, and with shrines it gets across the map in a few seconds, so think i'm off screen before these mods explode. In ruthless previous to this league I'm often needing to try and out run the explosion mechanics.
