Does it help to split damage?
Hello there, im using PoE.
I try to understand how this mechanic works correctly. 10% of Physical Damage from Hits taken as Cold Damage while affected by Purity of Elements I can grasp why PoB shows +13% phys max hit. But how can my cold max hit went up also by 2%? My resistances in combat Fire 84% Cold 83% Lightning 83% Physical 90% Math for runnyways Incoming damag: 1k 900 is absorbed by 90% phys res = 90 damage left 100 is absorbed by 83% cold res = 17 damage left So i take 107 damage in total, right? At least when we ignore ES and Armour. Is this math correct? Im bad at math. Last bumped on Oct 18, 2022, 1:27:07 PM

Yes, your math is correct. The increased max hit for cold damage probably has it's reason elswhere, like in the increased life mod from the watchers eye or something like that. The split only helps if the resist you convert the damage to is higher than the one you would have taken it with originally. It also helps against damage penetration like from shaper balls since the cold penetration of the balls doesn't apply to the part that is taken as another element for example.

Your phys reduction isnt 90%.
Thats a blatant lie (sort of). Essentially armor is less efficient the harder you get hit. So 90% reduction is only correct, if you are fighting white trashmobs with no modifiers at all. When facing bosses this 90% number will be much lower, especially if those 90% require flasks like Granite or Basalt to be active all the time - and thats not happening. This is when phys dmg taken as element starts to shine. |

now i start to understand. i refereded to the max resist just from PoB, not taken modifiers into account. thank you Im bad at math.

PoB on default assumes a very pathetically low damage number when calculating phys reduction. If you want to know what your true phys reduction is closer to, you need to override the value yourself in the config tab. I generally use 5000 and 10000 when I'm estimating versus pinnacle bosses.

" its assumption is a white monsters auto attack. As is the character sheet in game. Definitely need to modify the damage of hit in POB to see true #'s. |
