Help catch me up on changes?

Hey friends -

I'm thinking about coming pack to PoE after a long break (I think the last league I played was Delve?). Usually I roll my own build but I'm way behind the times and have no concept of the meta. I've looked at the usual starter guides and poe.ninja, but I figured I'd also hit up the ol' forums for some advice. Basically, I'm looking for some recommendations along the following lines:

- I prefer melee or selfcast (I guess we're calling it slinger) builds
- I play pretty relaxed so I don't care much about clear speed
- I play softcore so it can be a little rippy, as long as I can make progress
- I'm hella lazy about trading so don't count on me haggling for uniques
- I'm always down for flashing lights or MTX effects
