1) Complete your atlas
2) Check what zana mods are available
3) Invest into watchstones with correct mods for region
4) Farm legion/blight/breach/essence
5) ???
6) Profit
I teach illiterates calculus.
Didn't play trade for several leagues now, but I know that this question is hard to answer. There are like 500 different ways to make currency in PoE.

One for example is farming Heists, but if u didn't play the league then u have some homework to do, in what u have to do and farm to be effective.

Also what karoollll said, try to focus on one mechanic and enhance it as much as possible before farming that open end.
Use known money hackz..... type "-add $chaos_orbs #2001 UID=1222091"

EZ
I have three phones, Blizzard. Three f***ing phones.

There are basically 3 ways to produce currency in this game, apart from simply dropping it which I am not recommending as it is not worth it.

- First, what karollll said: You target-farm specific stuff that you can sell. Breach (Splinters, Breachstones), Blight (Oils, Blighted Maps), Betrayal (Jun-Masters on TFT), Essences, Legion Splinters/Emblems, early in the league Maps, Prophecies, valuable Beasts, etc. Eigher with Zana map devise and/or scarabs.

- Second, you craft. Doesn´t have to be ultimate endgame stuff, just take base cluster jewels or normal jewels, reroll it with harvest, sell if you hit good mods, profit. Meta changes every league so you have to check what Items are in high demand, but even besides that there is a lot of stuff that can get you currency with a few easy steps.

- Third, netprofit-bossing. Check the prices for shaper fragments for example, normally you pay a certain amount for the 4 guardian maps, then you run them, you kill shaper, and you sell the shaper-fragment with a profit. You can juice this further by also doing one round of formed invitation after all 4 bosses to get more fragments, as well as using the uncharted realm passives for another boss per map and even more fragments. Same stuff works with elder with watchers eye-drops, etc.

And then there is of course more exotic variants like
- flipping (buying cheap, selling higher or buying div cards and selling item)
- upgrading items via prophecies
- selling challenges
- delving
- lab-running
- pure heisting
- boss-services
- nemesis-farming

There is a metric TON of stuff you can do in PoE. For unexperienced players I´d stick with variant 1 or 3.

There is lots of "do this" kind of advice out there on how to make money, and most of it is valid to one degree or another, but what people tend not to say is that there is a huge discrepancy on how much currency you can make doing those things based on the monster level you are doing them at.

My experience is that there is a major up-tic in the amount of currency you make at monster level 82 and above. You will never make much currency doing yellow map equivalent content, at least not in the long run.

The real secret is you need a league starter capable of doing Sirus 5 equivalent content on less than 5 ex investment and farm the end game if you want to make 20 ex (or more) builds later in the league.
Personally I do not recommend people to have "earning currency" as a goal or as a focus in PoE.

Hoard your currency try not to use it so much. Sell it in bulk for chaos orbs or exalteds. Div cards can be valuable aswell check poe.ninja during leagues. Can easily verify by checking pathofexile.com/trade
