Since ilvl requirements are obviously, LARGELY a thing of the past, should they be reconsidered?
In SSF, Gwennen pretty much just gives influenced ilvl bases to you.
In a trade legaue, bases cost next to nothing these days, outside of a few ridiculous mods like getting elusive for almost no investment (which arguably shouldn't be there, as they're a nobrainer for largely every build ever). So it got me thinking... Rare drops at ilvl ~62 on a good base aren't worth even looking at, because they don't have the ability to highroll. Are there more cons of having the system than pros, in the current version of PoE? Don't get me wrong, I loved the days where you'd find ilvl items and consider them actual drops, especially in the beta days on HC. But that's just not the game we're playing anymore. You literally just grind to 90 in yellow/early red tier maps, roll Gwennen a few times and then you've got your perfect weapon base (cuz influenced attack-bases suck ass in 99% of cases - which is HELLA weird design too, but I digress). It's a way to control progression. If there were no ilvls, you could roll t1 mods when you are in act 1 of the game...
sure in a trade league you can bypass typical mechanics like ilvl, awakening lvl, etc. but they are still needed for the game to function correctly. You can't be dropping endgame items in the middle of the storyline, that's like oldschool cheat/hacking goals haha. Also why do you assume that only the highest rolls hold any value? There is tons of use for lower tier rolls while working towards the BiS items. Last edited by jsuslak313#7615 on Sep 6, 2021, 2:48:54 PM

Item level restrictions are fine - and even helpful - since they provide a relatively static "top-end" that can be balanced around for the campaign. That is, after all, the core of the game for most people. Those of us deep into maps are a minority.

OP might actually be on to something though about how easy it is to get high ilvl gear now. Maybe more T1 mods should be moved up to requiring ilvl 86?
