Well you are describing hard mode they announced, SSF is just the same game, but it shows some problems with itemization. Since GGG constantly talking about making drops great again and made trade hard on purpose, but on the other hand trade is the only way for most cases.

Anyway, the topic was why no one complain about D2, and in D2 there are ways, Pandenomuim can be done only with hell meph drops and you can find some other good stuff farming him. I'd say pindle is even better, 30s per run, can drop almost anything, no random layout.

Pindleskin was nerfed. Numerous top-tier items were removed from his drop pool and his chance to drop unique items was drastically lowered in 1.09. In modern Diablo 2, the Pit is one of the best places to target farm for speed and ease. It can drop everything but Azurewrath.

Wut? He can drop everything except Arachnid Mesh, Azurewrath and Tyrael's Might. And still have the best chances for some items like Tal Armor.
Pits can drop all of these, including Azurewrath.
