splitting an item in beast crafting

hi guys, ive tried to split a rare item with 3mods a few times and i dont get my 2nd item drop. All i got back was my original item bricked. this has happened multiple times and Im not sure what Im doing wrong. Can anyone explain?

You can just push ALT (or whatever button you have set) and override your filter. No need to reset it.
