Xbox - Astral Projector targetting

Is anyone else having problems with the targeting for Astral Projector?
After equipping the ring I'm finding it nearly impossible to hit enemies with random Nova's going off nowhere near enemies. I've had to stop using the ring now as it's just unusable. Feel pretty disappointed in my 2ex investment.
