I'm unsure if your talking about skill gems or symantics but i'll assume the former.

One's an Aura, ones a curse. Build determines which one is more useful/easier to fit.

Punishment is also not that great. The buff is granted to you when the cursed monster hits you with a melee attack. That means it does nothing for you if you dont get hit (by a melee attack), or if you kill your target before it has a chance to.

If you want to use a curse to buff your melee damage, use vulnerability.
Punishment is a curse, which means it shares a limit with other curses, and in order to grant its bonus you have to apply the curse and then the cursed enemy has to hit you and then you get the bonus.

Whereas Pride is an aura, which means you can benefit from it as well as a curse.
