So, I just uninstalled PoE today.

Props to Ghai, solid write-up sir.

Peace,

This game lost it's character. I do not know why I'm still playing it.

Me neither. Probably all the money I've dumped in this game makes me not want to give it up.

Really good post. I also remember when Kole was difficult. But like you said, who cares about Kole now? lol

lol I think I'm likely done with this league. Maybe I'll come back next league. But knowing GGG, the game is just going to get grindier, more RNG-layered and less fun with every passing league.

Great summary by Ghai. It's a sad testament to the game that we're at this point. Will TencentGGG actually do anything different, probably not. I'm just hoping Last Epoch and/or Wolcen get things right.
I also have issues with movement skills, though you need them to tactically position yourself. The problem is that they become the ONLY way to move around - I mean efficiently. I want to see a limit to walking speed. Taking a popcorn and reading the 1000000 threads of "this is not POE I KNOW AND WANT TO PLAY", from players that their first league was delve.

This whole Neo-liberalism\scientifisicm habit to find the most effective way to achieve a goal, reducing people, animals and now obviously games into numerics is beyond me.

I forever played only melee, clinging to my unsuccessful zeal pally. This had made me stick with builds, wondering why I just cannot do content... So I just to discover that they are a bad strategic choice, not my fault.

I find myself dozing off if i play a caster or an archer. like literally. thus I had accepted my fate.

I find the next expansion - the "MELEE" expansion to be my last stand for this game.

I started to play GD, so relaxing in compare to POE.

This zoom zoom thing also makes things banal. Monsters are banal. content is banal. It is all "numbers" nothing more. So why do we play? it is like hiking, but trying to finish the course as fast as you can without looking at the flowers.

I still wonder how they lost their own game. Was it conscious? did it happen by mistake? too many mistakes?

Another thing I just cannot understand is the decision to have HO. hideouts KILLED the group. Killed. No body knows that there's a notice board in towns for group making. People used to do the quests like that. Now every time I go into someone's HO I lag like crazy. The only way I can think of, that people are still quite about that issue is that they do not play in groups. So they do not need to complain.

And obviously what I HATE THE MOST is gating behind RNG.
EVERYTHING behind RNG I fail to see why most content is gated (like uber Lab). the last straw was maps. I still have tier 7 maps can't find to advance even if I alc everything.

If it were D2, it would be like this: You'll need to do Andariel for 200 times, so she would drop 4 pieces (which 1 is very very rare) just to do 1 meph run. so he could drop an even rarer pieces, to enjoy the privilege to fight diablo for one time. A time that you would mostly RIP if you do not have enough megatons in your hydrogen bomb shooting bow.

pathetic.

Probably has something to do with the mainstream idea that a healthy company should have never-ending plans for growth and ever-increasing monthly/quarterly/annual/whatever revenue.

Notice how aggressive GGG has become with their deadlines. Synthesis is not ready to launch? Whatever. Let's launch it anyway. We'll fix it eventually! (For some reason, GGG doesn't seem to care or notice that when the game is released in a buggy/untested state, players leave b/c they are frustrated, perhaps players even feel insulted, and they don't come back).

Not to mention the aggressive mtx marketing. The marketing wasn't like this 2-3 years ago. I suspect GGG makes most of their money these days from the loot boxes. If this is correct, GGG has become similar to a gambling company.

In fact, PoE at its core is a gambling game. Like you said, it's all about the numbers. Every time we kill a monster we are rolling a dice. The game is best played by increasing efficiency -- spending the least amount of time killing waves of shit with incredibly low odds of the shit dropping anything useful. Moreover, GGG is intentionally designing their game to be a gambling game. It's why leagues like Synthesis, Incursion can not be played unless you are fast. The game is intentionally being designed to play fast or go home. GGG doesn't seem to realize/care that when the game is designed around speed, all content becomes trivialized. All the bosses feel more or less the same. You just kill them all as quickly as possible.

GGG knows exactly what they are doing. We just don't want to quite admit that GGG has changed for good and has pretty much become like any other evil, profit-obsessed, safety/quality-cutting company. I remember reading a reddit post a couple days ago that complained GGG wouldn't refund him/her. GGG has become like any other money-hungry company that has to make more money each year (Which isn't necessary a bad thing, but they do so at the cost of quality).

They also insult us. Intentionally design their game to waste our time with layers upon layers of bullshit RNG. Remember, the casino/house always wins. And what GGG wants to win is as much of our time as possible. Nothing wrong with that if our time is spent doing something interesting. But pretty much what we are doing in PoE is playing the slot-machine all day and a real casino would at least be giving us better odds.

Also, constantly try to manipulate us into buying loot boxes. Why do the loot boxes consistently look cooler, more polished than the supporter packs? Claim to be a free company. But as we all know, this game is not playable for long with 4 tabs. Can't even fucking trade like a decent human being without buying a premium tab or using community developed tools like acquisition or w/e. No respect for the consumer at all!

Hmph!

Just read the entirety of this thread. On the one hand, it is vindicating having the community so up in arms about issues I raised three years ago (and was largely scoffed at for), on the other it is sad that none of them have been addressed.

The game needs be slowed down. A lot. I truly do love the game, but the clear speed focus has destroyed the soul of the game. I saw this three years ago. Truth is, when you are simply going into a map to clear everything in seconds then scoop your loot you are not playing a video game, you are playing a slot machine.

I daresay the entire community would be very happy to see the amount of leagues reduced to three, or even two, a year in exchange for having them properly tested and balanced first. Hell, if you put it to a vote I would wager the community would be in favor of SKIPPING a few leagues to have the core game balanced and fixed.

And as for the effects... considering the huge variety that have been put out I think GGG could drop all prices substantially, and will see that people will spend more when they feel they are getting their dollar's worth. Not sure how I feel about hideout tilesets being buyable yet, but I would be really annoyed if any became unavailable at a later date. On the topic of hideouts, one thought in response to the comment about how players never use the community board... why not put one in the hideout? Actually, why wasn't this done years ago?

GGG... please retune the game into something more methodical, more tactical... gimme time to appreciate the horror of the monster I am trying to slay, the spookiness of the crypts I am wandering. Make good on the promise to build your character anyway you like, and use what skills you like. (hint, I suspect you could rebalance the game fairly easily if you scrapped multiplicative modifiers, exponents are exponentially harder to balance than integers, and outright impossible when you try to mix the two)
Sadly, after Synthesis and the accumulation of bugs - I am inclined to follow your lead.

PoE today - sucks. So much ineptness, such untested and buggy leagues.. Instead of capitalizing on Delve - the best PoE had to offer, GGG is gating Delve behind not just content, but behind BUGS.

I was a closed-beta tested back in 2012 - and really have no desire to test the same game 6 years later. Playing Synthesis league feels like being a beta tester, once more.

No, thank you.

Yeah, now it feels like Delve times were so much better times. We saw the besn PoE had to offer then. Too bad this is over and now gated and nerfed to the point of being unfun.
I finished re-doing everything that was taken away from me in syndicate. And with that... I'm out. I just can't trust GGCent to shepard my progress. It was fun, I won't begrudge all the enjoyment PoE gave me before "the fall." I take no pleasure in them slowly but surely turning into just another Asian Grind-fest/Cash-extraction-enterprise. None at all. I wish things had stayed as they were.

Good luck everybody and have fun. Thanks for the good times. I'll remember what Path of Exile was fondly.
