Video Memory Consumption and Crash for Dx11

I started to play this game 3 months ago with 32-bit steam client and dx9.
My laptop only has 2G video memory and 8G ram. When I use 64-bit client with dx11, the video memory was taken up to 80% - 90%, and at some time it goes to 100% and then the client crashes(monitored in MSI afterburner. I tried to lower the core clock by 50 Mhz).
Since for 3.6, there will be no dx9 client. What can I do to fix this problem instead of buying a new computer or quitting the game?

(1) Either use the 32 bit or 64bit exe. The 64bit will use more RAM because of the bigger addressable space than 32bit, before stuff gets pushed into the page file on the HDD/SSD.

In your situation, I speculate, you will be better off with the 32bit, so POE does take up less RAM, and more is available for the VRAM allocation. And the rest will be pushed into the page file. Google "windows page file" for more info.

Please, if you have a mechanical HDD, make sure it is defragmented (marginally better read speeds, helps with the page file access and POE loading in generally).

(2) Start 32bit with the launch option "-gc 2" (from the Common Technical Problems Sticky) & https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Launch_options

(3) Set all the POE video settings on the lowest possible setting (from Common Technical Problems Sticky). So that VRAM is not loaded up unnecessarily with high-quality textures.

(4) Set all video driver settings in Windows (Nvidia, AMD) to the lowest possible settings.

(5) May limit your FPS to 60 max.

(6) Optimise your Windows: https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/awop5r/optimizing_poe/eho66cr/

(1) For Laptop users, check Power Options for Performance.

(2) Google/YouTube "optimize windows 10 for gaming", "windows 10 gaming settings"

eg disable Windows Game bar, reg edit - System Gaming Responsiveness, disable the Windows GUI responsiveness stuff "Visual Effects" (make it look like Windows 95).

And don't run any other applications and unnecessary background services (like Skype, Chrome, Printer etc) in the background.

how big is your Pagefile.sys??

i had similar crashes and turned out that my manually resized pagefile was too small.. i then changed it from 512Mb-->4096Mb and boom! my problems were gone.. tested this with W7 and W10.
d:-D*
laptops having a integrated graphics card often use shared memory (part of your ram is used for the gpu)

you can adjust the amount of shared memory in your laptop's bios. try to increase it in steps until the game stops crashing.

and try to buy another 8GB ram for your laptop and use the 64bit client as it is able to allocate more ram for the game which improves the buffering of game assets.

Nah. According to Chris the game works much better and more optimized in dx11. DX9 is not optimized but dx11 is super optimized and that boost your FPS. that's why they will remove dx9 because dx9 is poor in optimization, but dx11 is super omega optimized.

The problem is that when I check shared memory usage in the task manager, it is 0. And the default shared memory is 4G.
The shared memory usage is always 0. If that's the problem, will it help to modify the shared memory in bios?

Thank you very much for the list. I tried most of them and get the GPU usage down to some 50%-70%. However, it will still get to 100% at some time and makes the client crash. I am talking about the 64-bit client. And I will try to use the 32-bit client after 3.6 update.
i don't remember the windows task manager showing the memory shared with the gpu.

i use microsofts "process explorer", you have to download it separately, start it and click on "view system information" and choose "gpu".

In windows 10 it will show

For me it uses 100% 3D block in windows 10 and makes the video card 100% usage and overheat

I am using NVIDIA GeForce GT 730, I always see 100% 3D block in town even at act 1 :)

in windows 7 this seems better
