Winter Orb Totem AI Inconsistancies
Just want to start of with thanks for quick response on fixing the Winter Orb stack reset bug. Was scrolling through reddit when I up and when I saw the bug fix I jumped out of bed to play.
However, there is some targeting AI differences between self-cast and spell totems. While self-cast Winter Orb will target any destructible inventories(ie pots, urns, etc.). Totems won't even target them even after killing units and having stacks to do so. Low key this was almost a deal breaker in going Winter Orb totems. Also Winter Orb totems will not cast without a target. I was honestly expecting it to just channel for the whole duration. Just because its targetless doesn't mean that it should be auto-cast. I think the significant difference here is that its primary effect on casting is stack generation. This is exactly like BV totems as casting deals no damage, but builds charges. There is also similarities here to RF totems and Aura totems, but instead of stack generation it will toggle the spell on instantly. So I think the logic here is as follows; the primary effect of casting does not require a target/targets a location, nor does it deal damage = Totems will auto-cast it. But Winter's Orb does not follow this rule. Last edited by iDoodler#6395 on Dec 10, 2018, 4:44:53 PM Last bumped on Dec 10, 2018, 6:45:08 PM

" After a bit more testing, it seems I was wrong about this. Most of my testing was prior the fix of the stacks resetting. Seems that when the totems have stacks and no enemies they will attack destructible inventories. However, they are not registered as viable targets to cast winter orb on, and will not generate stacks off them. |
